Corruption by Public Servants a Gigantic Problem: Court


New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) Observing that corruption has become a "gigantic problem", a Delhi court has sentenced a city policeman to three years jail for accepting bribe.

Special CBI judge P S Teji sentenced Jawala Prasad, 62, who was posted as head constable at Mandawali police station here in 2003, after holding him guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Prasad was arrested by CBI sleuths on a complaint by Charanjeet Lal in September 2003 that the former demanded Rs 3,000 as bribe from him for taking action against a private firm.

"It is important to note that corruption by public servants has become a gigantic problem. It has spread everywhere and no facet of public activity has been left unaffected by the sting of corruption.
