New Delhi, Jun 19: The 'aam aadmi' image seems to be working well for Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is being touted as a PM in waiting by his own party members.
A national survey has revealed that as many as 46 percent of Indians feel that Rahul would make a better Prime Minister than Manmohan Singh. About 61 percent of the voters who polled in the 'Mood of the Nation' survey, conducted by LensOnNews.com, rooted for a change in the government at the centre.
Manmohan Singh, meanwhile, got the support of only 34 percent of the voters.
"As many as 46% believe that Rahul Gandhi would make a better prime minister while only 34% think Manmohan Singh should continue."
"Rahul Gandhi is clearly preferred over Manmohan Singh for the position of prime minister," the website said.
The survey, conducted between June 12-16 covered a representative sample of about 3,800 voters across India, with a margin error of four percent.
It is the urban population that wanted the change at the centre, especially young India. The survey clearly suggests that Congress is losing its hold among the more educated Indians.
However, Congress still continues to be favoured by minorities, women, labourers and farmers.
Nevertheless, Narendra Modi is still the preferred choice of most, with 53 percent voting in his favour as against Rahul Gandhi's 46 percent.
