New Delhi: Fake Certificates Giving Nightmares to College Administrations

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Jun 25: This year during college admissions, the biggest challenge faced by colleges, specially those of repute, was the verification of certificates of caste and annual income. An intricate racket of producing fake certificates, much like their originals, has come to light, and the recent arrest of a three-member gang has revealed that as many 11 students have been admitted to colleges with fake caste certficates.

The seats reserved for backward castes have been grabbed by general category students by producing these certificates.

It is leart that, by paying about Rs 3 to 5 lac, a certificate can be produced, so alike the original that it would easily skip the notice of college administrations.

Delhi police have been succesful in making a breakthrough, and have summoned the parents of students to conduct a detailed enquiry. They too could land in trouble as they had applied for such fake certificates.

It is quite obvious that getting admission at Delhi University's top colleges like the Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Kirorimal and Venkateshwara is not easy. One has to be meritorious or deserve concession on caste or income. But general category students chose to go a different way.

Delhi police say that the fake certificate supplier would tell students that he would get them admitted to Delhi University for Rs 3-5 lac. At least 10-12 forged certificates were made by Ketan Gupta, who has been arrested.

"The unique thing is that Ketan would upload their names onto the Delhi government website to make it seem more authentic," he added.

Many students are currently under the scanner as the authorities continue to investigate the case.
