Lucknow, Jun 26: Four days after the death of deputy chief medical officer Dr Y S Sachan, Uttar Pradesh police on Sunday June 26 registered a case of murder and conspiracy against unidentified persons, following a complaint from Sachan's wife.

A police spokesperson said that an FIR under section 302 (murder) and 120B (conspiracy) has been lodged at Gosaiganj police station.

Sachan's wife Malti had sent an application on Friday June 23 to the deputy inspector general of police requesting him to lodge a case of murder.

Sachan's family had refused to believe the police version regarding Sachan's death that it was a case of suicide. They insisted that he was murdered, and even the postmortem report revealed nine injuries on his body, which strengthened the family's claim.

Sachan's family has been demanding a CBI probe into the death, and initially had refused to cremate him till an inquiry was ordered. However, on Saturday June 24 he was cremated after the family decided to move the Supreme Court to demand a CBI probe.

A report by joint director of UP medico-legal department Y S Pathak stated that the nature of injuries on Sachan's body point towards conspiracy. One of the injuries may have been inflicted after Sachan's death to make it appear like suicide, it is learnt.
