Daijiworld Media Network

Kundapura, Apr 3: With the state gearing up to vote in the coming weeks, Kundapura MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty has officially announced on Monday, April 3 that he will not be contesting the upcoming Assembly polls and sought the support of the constituency to the candidate  the party chooses.

On Monday, April 3, in the evening reports emerged that Halady was contemplating political retirement with a rider that his close aide Kiran Kumar Kodgi be given the ticket from Kundapura to contest on a BJP ticket.

However, sources close to Halady that the MLA will himself announce his future political moves to the media sections soon.

On the other hand sources also indicate Jayaprakash Hegde's name for the Kundapur constituency.  Age factor has been another factor for Halady Srinivas Shetty to go backfoot from the electoral fray. This decision of Halady Srinivas Shetty might affect the finalisation of the candidate on the part of BJP in other constituencies as well.

Halady Srinivas Shetty has been a undefeated MLA representing Kundapura for the past 25 years. He has won as an independent as well from the constituency. During the 2018 election itself there were rumours of him retiring from active politics.

He has been winning for 20 yrs, but I have not seen any development in Kundapura city area. Don't know on what basis people vote here.

Would be apt if Shrinivas Poojary too takes retirement as he benefitted hugely at the cost of Shrinivas Shetty. This would send the right msg for Bunt Billava brotherhood which is as important as Hindu Muslim unity down here in South Kanara. Bunts laid the foundation for BJP in SK with leaders like KS Hegde , MLC Karambally Sanjeeva Shetty , 1st Jan sangh Mla BR Shetty etc . Now RSS needs only those bunts and billavas who touch their feet and lack Independent charisma unlike Halady & Jayprakash Hegde.

BJP treated him badly just because he is from bunt community, one of the leading community in UDUP/DK district. Whatever it maybe the reason but they should have given him a chance to become minister after he came back second time into the party, keeping politics aside. All the BJP leaders failed in that and went with politics as their priority.

In political arithmetic, bunts have been shown a hard ball. They have become the foot soldiers of the Sangh Parivar

Shree jayaprakash Hegde is the right candidate. As a MLA and minister from earstwill Brahmavar constuncey, Mr. Hegde was very popular, result oriented and highly respected personality. His victory in assembly elections was huge.
