Beltangady, Apr 8: Most of the rivers are dried out due to the simmering summer heat. Phalguni river at Kapinadka has also met the same fate. Meanwhile, thousands of fishes were found dead in the river as the miscreants put poison laced food in order to catch them.

Some tiny ponds are formed in the river as the water flow is stopped. They contain small fishes. Miscreants are trying to catch these fishes near Peraje of Balanja village by feeding them poison laced food. Scores of fishes are dead due to this reason.

Some fishes are semi-conscious and are fighting for life due to hot water and shortage of oxygen. Local person Sadananda Salian has requested the gram panchayat to take suitable action in this regard.
