Mangaluru: DC urges eligible citizens in dist to exercise their franchise on May 10

Mangaluru, Apr 12: As many as 17,68,031 citizens will exercise their franchise in Dakshina Kannada on May 10. The district has 8,64,885 male voters, 9,03,068 female voters,78 transgenders, and 541 service voters, said Deputy Commissioner Ravi Kumar M R.

Addressing media persons at his office here on Wednesday, April 2023, he said the last date to file the nominations will be April 20. Nominations will be scrutinised on April 21. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 24. The entire election process will culminate on May 15, he said.

The model code of conduct is in force from March 29. There are 60,934 citizens who are aged more than 80 years including PWD voters.

Ravi Kumar said public can file complaints against violation of model code of conduct. The helpline number is 1950. Measures have been taken to ensure that there are no violations in model code of conduct. There are 72 flying squads, 81 static surveillance teams, and 11 excise teams in the entire district, he said.

The DC has also appealed to all the eligible citizens to exercise their democratic right of casting their valuable vote during the elections.

He also said that the Election Commission has seized 25 lacs in cash, six kilos of ganja, 500 grams of MDMA and 956 litres of liquor.
