New Delhi, Jul 4: Andhra Pradesh is neck deep in political and constitutional crisis as 61 MPs from Telangana threatened to resign if a separate Telangana state is not formed.
The MLAs and MPs displaying their resignation letters to the media threatened to submit them to the speaker of the assembly and parliament.
The Congress party's 155 MLAs include 53 MLAs from Telangana. To obtain a clear majority in the house 148 MLAs are required and despite the fact that Chiranjeevi's 17 MLAs are now with the Congress, if all Telangana MLAs resign the central government would surely be in chaos.
In New Delhi, 12 Congress MPs from the Lok Sabha are from the region, including Union Minister Jaipal Reddy. Even if 11 MPs resign, it could be delicate for the Centre.
However, Jagan Mohan Reddy who has projected himself as the leader for the non-Telengana regions of the state would be greatly benefitted by the crisis. The Congress party is now worried if the sitting MLAs who support Reddy could make matters worse.
Though the partys high command understands that MPs and MLAs are facing strong criticism at the grass root level in Telanagana, it hopes to ensure that the leaders do not submit their resignations.
