New Delhi, Jul 5: The Supreme Court on Tuesday July 5 quashed a plea by chief justice P D Dinakaran to dismiss the charges against him and gave its nod to impeachment proceedings against the Sikkim high court chief justice.
The Supreme Court lifted stay on proceedings against P D Dinakaran through a Rajya Sabha appointed panel.
Rajya Sabha chairman has been asked to reconstitute the committee by replacing senior advocate of Supreme Court Pavani Parameswara Rao with another jurist.
Justice Dinakaran has filed petition in the apex court challenging the impeachment proceedings against him for alleged corrupt practices and misconduct.
He alleged that the panel had framed additional charges, conducted investigations and collected material against him which according to the judge was not permissable by the law.
Dinakaran's plea was dismissed by the court for overthrowing the committee's charges framed against him.
The apex court said that his plea was only to delay the procedures. The charges against Dinakaran include land grabbing, accumulation of unaccounted assets, passing judicial order for extraneous considerations, following which his elevation to the Supreme Court was also stalled
