Bantwal: Third toll booth begins operating at Brahmarakootlu toll gate

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (MS)

Bantwal, Apr 19: Third toll booth began functioning at Brahmarakootlu toll plaza near B C Road on NH 75. Though the booth was constructed months ago, it was not opened.

Only two toll booths were operating at Brahmarakootlu toll plaza since it began functioning many years ago. Vehicles had to stand for a long time in the queue in order to cross the toll gate. NHAI had begun work on the third tollway four years ago and stopped it as the electricity poles were not shifted by Mescom. Though the poles were shifted later, work got further delayed due to NH widening.

The third tollway work took a mammoth three years for the NHAI to complete. Though the work got completed last year, it was not opened. Now as it has been functioning for three days, the vehicle movement is faster. The implementation of Fastag has further eased the vehicle movement.

Earlier, during morning and evening hours, there were queues on either side of the toll booth for several kilometres. In addition, the road is narrow near Brahmasannidhi which was adding further woes to the motorists. Now with the opening of the third toll gate, the motorists have heaved a sigh of relief.

5 years back our MP promised to stop toll collection in Brahmarakotlu, but it continues till today. The roads are very bad with only patches applied and no proper service road exists. A small stretch of service road has many unscientific humps and height limiting girders to prevent bigger vehicles entering. Unless people agitate this day light robbery will not end.
