Vijayapura, Apr 19: Mahantesha, a young farmer from Tadalagi in the Kolar district, is earning Rs 5,000 per month through Galati flower farming.

Mahantesha previously cultivated onions, but incurred losses due to low market prices. Upon the advice of a friend, he started growing Galati flowers. He spent Rs 1 lac to install a pipeline to bring water from a nearby canal to his half-acre, stone-mixed barren land and began growing Galati flowers.

He purchased Galati flower plants from Dharwad and Sangli in Maharashtra. Within two months, the plants began yielding flowers, which he sells every day at the Vijayapura market.

During festivals, the flowers are sold at Rs 100 per kg, while on other days, the price hovers around Rs. 30 per kg. On average, Mahantesha earns Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per month.

Galati flowers give yield for five months. The flower blossoms in red and yellow colors and has great demand. It is used for decoration as well as offering to God during pooja. Now, many farmers in Vijayapura are also growing Galati flowers, which are giving them high returns.

Sure ,work hard to yield. One sees only what he earns ,but behind this also hard work is needed.Suppose if rains sometimes at unusual times ,nothing with flowers. He should too think of other flowers when Galati flowers goes to end.So he can use the land for something else.Wish him best yield
