Baghdad, Jul 5 (IANS): At least 35 people were killed and 28 injured Tuesday in two bomb explosions near a government building north of Baghdad, Xinhua reported.
The first incident occurred around mid-day when a booby-trapped car parked outside the town council building of Taji area, 20 km north of Baghdad, detonated. It caused severe damage to the council building and many police and civilian vehicles, said an Interior Ministry source requesting anonymity.
Minutes later, a roadside bomb went off as Iraqi security forces and civilians gathered at the scene of the first blast, the source added.
Many of the killed were members of security forces, he said.
Iraqi security forces cordoned off the area, as ambulances took victims to nearby hospitals and medical centres, he added.
Violence and sporadic high-profile bomb attacks continue in Iraqi cities despite a dramatic decrease in violence since last few years.
