Car is completely on the wrong side. In India punishment for the driver who went on the wrong side and killed someone who was following traffic rules is 6 months jail. That too if at all..

Since the victim has already died, compensation is most important considering his age and the number of years still left in his productive life which would be so boon for his wife and toddler kids!!

Number of accidents and resultant deaths and serious injuries due to reckless driving have reached a flashpoint; it's imperative that very strict rules be framed to punish the offenders, and make them liable to pay heavy compensation to the innocent victims! Nowadays, with unscientific broadening of the roads by shady construction cos, it's become very risky for even pedestrians, in the absence of reserved service pathways, besides the highways! In the rush to complete road targets all safety factors have taken a backseat; latest example is the Bengaluru-Mysore expressway!! Only some divine Providence can save the travelling public from gory accidents due to these roads and rogue drivers!!

If the reason for the car driver's rash driving is established, beyond doubt, as negligence on his part without any problem with the machine, the driver should be made liable for a heavy compensation to the victims, akin to "blood money" in the Gulf countries!

The bitter truth is that there are many drivers on our roads that drive both carelessly (drivers of Trucks and busses) and recklessly because of no fear of the law and precious human lives. On the side of the government proper roads and footpaths must be built with clear road signs, signals and speed limits enforced . Once the government does all of the above, they should show they have teeth by insisting all motor vehicle drivers MUST purchase Life Insurance coverage for a minimum of 1 crore rupees. The bigger the vehicle (Bus & Trucks) must purchase more liability insurance. Repeat offenders, should have their license suspended, impose huge fines, garnish their salaries and/or bank accounts and confiscate their properties and pay the proceeds for the upkeep of the families of the deceased and in the worst case scenario treat the accident as "Man slaughter" and sentence them to lengthy prison terms, if they do not have insurance coverage or refuse to pay for the upkeep of the families of the deceased. I hope someone in authority is reading this and taking some much needed action.

Very tragic and unfortunate premature death; looking at the pics, it is clear that the car driver was too reckless to have steered the car to the extreme right at high speed and killed one innocent young man and seriously injured the pillion rider! These type of accidents seem to have become a daily affair in and around Mangalore! May his soul RIP!! This car driver should be charged with murder for the way he was driving!
