Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian top performer in legislative activities, says survey

Daijiworld Media Network – Moodbidri

Moodbidri, Apr 29: A survey report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) India and Karnataka Election Watch said that BJP MLA Umanath A Kotian from Moodbidri, stood third in terms of asking questions in the Assembly.

MLA Kotian had asked a total of 502 questions, including 24 oral and 478 written questions.

A 'no-nonsense' people's representative, Kotian had once lashed out at the functioning style of a minister belonging to his own party which is in power in the state. He had also urged the state government to name Mangaluru airport after Koti-Chennayya.

MLAs from coastal Karnataka, MLA Rajesh U Naik from Bantwal (93% attendance and 142 questions), D Vedavyasa Kamath from Mangaluru City North (91% attendance, 146 questions), Y Bharath Shetty from Mangaluru City North (85% attendance and 153 questions), and Harish Poonja from Beltangady (80% attendance and 124 questions) have performed well according to the survey.

Also, Sanjeev Matandoor attending the sessions for 148 days, B M Sukumara Shetty from Byndoor attended the session for 137 days and asked 360 total questions, Lalaji R Mendon from Kaup had 87% attendance and asked 120 questions, and K Raghupati Bhat from Udupi secured 78% attendance and posed 335 questions. However, the performance of theses legislators did not help them get ticket from the BJP for the 2023 elections to the Legislative Assembly.

Asking questions is one thing ... How many questions got converted to action on the ground and has been implemented is the real political ability of an elected representative

Absolutely! Even my kid will ask thousands of questions. Top performer is not decided on number of questions or attendance, Its on what is the magnitude of development work done and who and how many have actually benefitted. Changing name of Mangalore port to Koti chennaya will not benefit any common man. In other words it is an expenditure where all documents/boards etc have to be renamed and a hassle. The renaming of city/town is a means of making money for the corrupt. They just need a reason to make the 40%
