Communal agenda derailed BJP in Karnataka, undermined development

By M K Ashoka

Bengaluru, May 16 (IANS): Despite successfully implementing a slew of developmental projects, massive drubbing in the May 10 Karnataka Assembly polls has come as a major blow to the overconfident BJP, say experts.

From Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway to Upper Bhadra River Project, from fancy new International airport in Shivamogga to state-of-the art Terminal 2 at the Bengaluru International airport, BJP had just delivered projects which would ensure future growth of the state.

Besides constructing new medical colleges at Yadgir, Haveri which are considered as most backward districts, the party also built a medical college at Chikmagalur and Chikkaballapur and planned a new airport in Hassan.

It also upgraded railway stations at Davanagere, Hospet and Belagavi, the experts opine.

The BJP supporters rue that in spite of effective implementation of the projects, BJP was shunted out for freebies and over caste considerations. The social media is abuzz with such posts, triggering an intense debate.

The argument seems in place as Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway reduced travel time between two major cities of the state by two hours. The Upper Bhadra River project kindled hope in the whole region of central Karnataka. Swanky terminal 2 at the Bengaluru airport was the pride of all Kannada people. Medical colleges in the aspirational districts lifted up prospectus of the regions and people cheered for them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally flown down to Shivamogga to inaugurate the international airport on the occasion of the birthday of former Chief Minister  B.S. Yediyurappa. It was the dream project of Yediyurappa.

While campaigning, the PM had said that he would depute the whole of New Delhi in the service of Karnataka people. However, nothing seems to have worked for the saffron party.

On the other hand, Congress's promises of free 10 kilograms of rice, 200 units of free power, Rs 2,000 allowance for women, Rs 2,000 allowance for two years for unemployed graduates, Rs 1,500 for unemployed youth and free travel for women in state transport struck a chord with masses.

The projects implemented by BJP didn't give relief for masses belonging to below poverty line, poor, lower middle class and middle class reeling under price rise.

Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar appealed to voters on polling day not to forget to see their LPG cylinders and the whopping cost and then cast their votes.

Also, the voters didn't like Muslim hatred propagated by the BJP and Hindutva forces. The pot-boiling situation during the hijab crisis, boycott calls on Muslim traders, revenge killings, focus of Al-Qaeda terrorist organisation and cooker bomb blast also didn't go down well with the peace loving people of Karnataka.

BJP's attempts of reversal of Muslim quota and pitting major Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities against Muslims also fell flat. Vokkaliga seer intervened and ordered BJP leaders not to rake up the issue of Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda killing Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan any further. This came as the biggest setback for ruling BJP ahead of polls.

The arrogant tone of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J.P. Nadda that BJP is "inevitable" for Karnataka's development also wan not received well.

Opposition party leaders reminded that Karnataka is the second state after Maharashtra in terms of generating revenues for the central government and the cost of projects built by the BJP government is nothing when compared to what it gets from the state.

Large number of people especially in south Karnataka are beneficiaries of the land reforms brought by the Congress. Karnataka was one of the states which implemented land reforms effectively in the country. Lakhs of people fulfilled their dream of owningAAlands. The goodwill is intact till date and it was evident during the Bharat Jodo Yatra of Rahul Gandhi. BJP just brushed it aside.

The previous Congress governments had built all research institutes in Bengaluru and made it a hub of research and innovation. It developed it as an IT city. Mallikarjun Kharge has brought state-of-the-art ESI hospitals to the state when he was Union Minister for Labor. He also brought Article 371 J special status to Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

Despite what the Congress did for the state in the past, people had chosen BJP. Now, they have returned to the Congress.

Instead of ranting about a handful of projects, the BJP should introspect and find out what really went wrong and stop humiliating Karnataka people. The BJP humiliated the Lingayat community and lost its vote bank. The attempts to humiliate the whole of Kannada people by the supporters of BJP would only hurt it more, say experts.

Modi was inflated by articial praise and importance shown by andabhakts and religiously brainwashed illiterate people. He festryed our economy and divided people on communal hatred. After all a person who was selling tea and in olved in un ethical RSS backed improvement how he became a PM. Most of his implementations flopped utterly and terribly. He made use of governments agencies including SC to peottec and safeguard his motives. His time will come shortly. People have finally awaken and action will follow.

BJP needs to go to primary children in the locality and check what makes children and their parents a safe environment to live in . Today Mangalore and Udipi which was a peaceful place , is a notorious place in the eyes of Indian media and is no more known as a temple town of the 80's.We still love our Dakshin Kannada.

In this article...I dont see anywhere mentioned about any development projects to Mangaluru/Udupi region. Forget new projects, Poor Mangaluru lost 2 of its major home grown Banks too to Gujjus..All projects to Bengaluru, mysuru, shimgoa and other places only .But still Mangaluru/Udupi people majority voted for BJP only for some reason. People speak bla bla bla.. But anyways Hinterland kannadigas has done right thing by voting for a change i.e congress...and taught a right lesson to BJP...Mangaloreans too should learn from Kannadigas, or else BJP will take Mangaluru/Udupi for granted

Communal Agenda? seriously? Yeah BJP does not appease minorities, it treats all religions equal. Thats communal. Boss, see the demand from the WAQF board leader of Karnataka as per the commitment by the Congress leaders prior election. They want a Muslim DCM, HM, FM, and education minster as agreed. Lingayats too have made a similar demand as per the promises made. So this is not communal? Please write an article on that, Every nationwide TV channel has aired this. North Karnataka people fell for freebies. Lets be even ended.

Out of 40% commission in major projects that BJP has stolen from the govt fund, if they had at least used 5% for the welfare schemes like these freebies, even BJP could have delivered those freebies without any hardship. But they chose to eat it fully. I am sure even Congress will keep their percentage of commission (as most of all politicians do), but atleast Congress has promised to give back some of it back to the public through these freebies. BJP is master in "devide and rule" policy. Thats all they know. Hate is a perishable product, it expires quickly. Kannadigas are now the "role models"

See that's the difference. Congress folks don't even dare to say they won't do corruption. Corruption is in Congress genes and way above BJP. BJP should have taken action to improve their image when corruption charges were levelled against them. The yearly cost of the freebies is estimated to be between 40000 to 50000 crores. Already Congress started putting riders on the freebies. Now people will understand how Congress fooled them.

Any developments that doesn't benefit common citizens but only cater to wealthy people doesn't bring in votes. Highest inflation and unemployment are core issues they're concerned with. High toll by adding 2 side lanes too angered people. Rs 1000/- fine to connect Aadhaar with Pan card on non taxpayers is bigger issue for poor and middle income people too. The arrogant India Shining propaganda in 2004 derailed Vajpayee Government. Catering and implementation of economic measures of World Economic Forum which hurt the people most and handing over of our national assets to a few business people with people's money as loans without any securities too is a miscalculated measure. Centre is equally responsible for the defeat of BJP. Vendetta politics on opposition leaders and misuse of investigating agencies is another factor unless stopped the party will have a surprise in next years election.

BJP's only agenda and ambition to strech their legs through North/South East/West to make India a Hindutva destined Ram Raj. And in n the name of Ram (The Lor Ram) There is Ram Sena, Bahu Bali - Bhajrand Dal, somewhere Beem Sena, Shiv Sena etc. No body knows who is ruling whom? We need a government both at the Centre and State who can control the country without interference and threats of fringe groups of religious fundamentalists. Everywhere politics. If someone eats mean and visits temple big publicity. If any action on birth control and population control, take another controversy by opposition. This has been continuing and making our population as big burden on countries resources, infrastructure, food supply etc. Politics has become poli tics. Good luck to all.

i think the constant attempt by the blue j pigs to destabilize society in the name of cow slaughter, love jihad, hijab and jatka/halal issues was too much for the commoners to take...with rising prices of essential commodities the people were more bothered about living cost and these nagpur gulams dont know how to run a govt in that context..it was miserable...even when feku comes he either speaks about gandhi family or about hindu gods and tries to blackmail public emotionally...but public of karu nadu had enough and gave left, right and centre and booted out the chaddi vanara sene

I honestly think minority votes cannot decide the election outcome in India. It is those indians belongings to majority community who did not like the communal views voted to change the government so that at least for next few years people will focus on united India. I have seen parents influenced by certain organizations even not allowing their little kids to play with out of community children. Have we already filled our children's mind with our hate filled ideology? Let that change. Let that change for a happier India.
