Beltangady: Fire mishap at supermarket, Rs 30 lac worth goods gutted

Beltangady, May 22: Goods worth Rs 30 lac were gutted in the supermarket owned by B M Abbas on Didupe Road of Somanthadka in Mundaje village on Mangalore-Chikkamagaluru national highway on Sunday May 21.

Around 4.30 am newspaper distributor Balachandra and his assistant saw smoke billowing out of the supermarket and informed the matter to the owner and locals.

Locals Sachin, Jagadish, Prakhyath, Deviprasad, Rafik, Mansoor, Mohiuddin and Abdulla rushed to the spot and prevented the fire from spreading further. Later fire service personnel brought the fire under control.

Abbas also owns a grocery store just by the side of the supermarket. However, due to the presence of mind of locals, no damage was done to the grocery shop.
