Mumbai: Police Nab Man for Cheating 25 Girls Via Facebook

Daijiworld Media Network—Mumbai (CN)

Mumbai, Jul 22: The number of crimes being committed through the use of social networking sites is on the rise. Many such cheating cases are reported in the media each day.

Facebook, one of the popular social networking sites, is used by millions of users worldwide and has been useful to many. However, a handsome, smart, and dynamic youth used this network to fool more than two dozen young girls in and around Mumbai!

Vijay Bahdoor Khatri, 23-years-old, claims on Facebook that he is a Nepali citizen whose parents are in the USA while he studies in Mumbai.

Once he gets well-acquainted with a girl, he spends money on her, roams the beaches with her, besides taking her to multiplexes and holiday spots.

Soon, he confesses to the girl that he has lost the money sent by his parents for his expenses and college fees in some investment. Taking pity on him, some girls hand over their pocket money to him while others get the money from their parents’ and pay him.

In some cases, he even suggested that the girls get their parents’ jewellery and obtain cash for it.

After cheating his 25th victim, a girl from Andheri gave a police complaint as she got suspicious of his behaviour.

On Thursday July 21, Kurla police arrested Vijay and remanded him to judicial custody till Monday July 25.

This should serve as a lesson for the young girls who get intimately acquainted with their Facebook ‘friends’ without being aware of their background.

Mr. Raj Ullal, it is quite surprising that you have to 'politicize' even this which is a matter of a wannabe male conning 25 girls for money. I feel this is wrong and uncalled for. What the guy has done is wrong but the girls should be thankful that he didnt do anything more and that they are safe. Some others are not, like this young woman - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000666757854. She befriended a guy on FB, chatted with him, fell in love with him, moved in with him... one morning, the police found her body in a gunny sack in the Delhi Railway station. Its not very smart to befriend guys online... its stupid!!

Dear Alwyn..Although your comments are not relavant to main subject(as per Mr.Sunil D'souza),I have some doubts on your verdict..
1.People may mistake young MAN for monkey and neglect original monkey.
2.Original monkey may ask Zoo officials to shift the so called "man monkey" because of threat to its place in zoo.
3.Original monkey might sue man for CHEATING !! So,better young man stay in JAIL.

First of all, how old are these girls? In the case that they are younger than 17, the 23 year old should be charged with misdemeanor in "corruption of a minor." However, women past the years of 17 should know better than that! They are to be blamed for their own mistakes. Im sorry but as soon as one hits that golden age of 17/18, when he/she is done with his/her high school years, elders should not have to come into role at this point. Young adults make their own decisions and face the consequences.

I see nothing wrong by the young man.He spends money and makes the girls spend as well. So, what's wrong?
It is the girls who should be held responsible for flirting with some unknown persons.

There is new trend develping in
the hearts of some young people that taking advantage of innocent
    and gullible people is smartness.
This young man needs to learn a
very hard lesson of life for his
    lying and tricking. These crooks
must be punished in public, so
that it will be a lesson to the
    other would be crooks.

Facebook is a great invention for
    creating friendship, but some
    people use facebook for creating
    problems for other people. Girls:
    please don't think that those
    people coming across your life
with a pleasant and friendly face
can be trusted blindly. A great
    majority of them are double-faced
people with a lot of dirty tricks
in their sleeves, and by blindly
trusting them, we will reap a heap
of pains and gallons of tears.

This is a very interesting and useful article and it should open the eyes of young people not to give out lots of personal information on social networking sites.
I personally have never used facebook etc. but I use skype on a daily basis to be in touch with friends all over the world especially in Mangalore /India.
As soon as I receive any contact request on skype and I do not know the person I ignore it and I deliver personal information only when I know the person.

And on the other hand is it very important that parents should know what activities children carry out on the net and parents should be computer literate.
In our globalised world is it absolutely necessary for children and for people to achieve a high command over computer programmes, to use a computer properly but on the other hand parents should make children aware of the dangers of the net.
If it is possible that parents are taking as examples by their children it should be possible to educate children to use computers in a responsible way.

It is really difficult to imagine how it was possible that Vijay Bahdoor Khatri, 23 years old, could fool more than 23 young girls in Bombay.
And I am sure most of the readers of this article agree with me.
It is very harmful for the girls psychologically, they were cheated and exposed to lies.
Social networking sites are useful and even harmful.

    Best regards

Nice lesson to learn and digest what exactly face book is and its merits and demerits. This is happening in multiples now a days.  Nobody can question or ask any present day youngsters.they think they are doing some wonders, miracles and great achievements.Youngsters beware of all these things before anything goes wrong.

Use the facebook for genuine purpose. It is good to know each other provided being used in a proper way and with good sense.Don't fall prey to this kind of loafers. They will pamper you, praise you until you become their victim.Your respect, prestige is within you.Beware of face book romeos!!!!
