Moodbidri, Jul 25: A training programme for traditional vovio and verse was conducted by the Women's Cell at Corpus Christi Church Hall in Moodbidri on June 24. The programme aimed to teach 20 women from the parish how to sing and recite the vovio and verse for the roce functions during wedding celebrations. The event was witnessed by Corpus Christi Church vice president, Vincent D'Souza, and secretary, Norbert Martis.

The programme was led by Anil D'Cunha and Irene Rebello, who served as the resource persons for the training. The session commenced at 2 pm with an invocation to God through a hymn was rendered, followed by the lighting of lamps by the dignitaries. The president of Sri Sangatan, Jasintha Monis, extended a warm welcome to all the participants by presenting them with roses. Ivy Serrao introduced the resource persons, highlighting their expertise and experience.

Norbert Martis delivered a presidential speech, emphasizing the importance of training women in singing and reciting vovio and verse to preserve the tradition of Catholic roce functions. He stressed the significance of adhering to the rules and regulations of vovio and verse recitation, as well as following the appropriate steps during the roce functions. Moreover, he encouraged the participants to value their ancestral traditions while disregarding unnecessary elements.

During the training, the resource persons provided detailed instructions on the proper techniques of vovio and verse recitation. They also emphasized the significance of maintaining the cultural heritage associated with these practices. The programme aimed to equip the women with the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure smooth and authentic conduct of roce functions.

At the conclusion of the programme, Wilma D'Souza, the secretary of Sri Sangatan, expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event. A tea and snacks session was organized, providing an opportunity for the participants to socialize and reflect on the valuable lessons they had learned.

Overall, the training programme for traditional vovio and verse conducted by the Women's Cell at Corpus Christi Church Hall was a resounding success.     Bravo! What is missing is COCONUT MILK and men/women acting as bridal couple with the "ros" either poured on their head or dabbed on the forehead while reciting the vovio. May be that ritual will be followed in the next training session.
