Mangaluru: Incessant rains – Holiday declared for schools, colleges

Mangaluru, Jul 4: Deputy commissioner (DC) Mullai Mugilan declared holiday for schools and colleges of Mangaluru, Mulki, Ullal, Moodbidri and Bantwal taluk on Tuesday July 4 in wake of the heavy downpour that is lashing these areas.

In an order taken out by District Disaster Management Authority and authorised by DC Mugilan holiday is declared for all Anganwadi centres, primary and high schools, pre-university, government aided and private educational institutions on July 4.

In addition, instructions are given for public to safeguard against dangers that may arise due to continuous rains. Parents are instructed to prevent their children from going near low lying areas filled with water, ponds, river banks and beaches.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea. District and taluk level officials are asked to be in their central office and follow disaster management mandatorily. Nodal officers nominated by the district administration should be alert 24x7 and respond to public grievances immediately and be in touch with control room of DC office. Tourists are advised not to go to river banks and sea beaches. Concerned department officials are instructed to open grievance centres in every taluk and be ready to deal with any situation.

    It's better to shift the yearly vacation from summer to rainy vacation because if there are torrential rains, seeing the condition of the entire city's flooding just at the start of the monsoon, every second day will have to be declared as a holiday!

    How you know; I was born and brought up in Mumbai, my kids too living in a densely populated area? We have seen/faced the worst of flooding in Mumbai but no holidays declared like this sleepy Smart City for such type of rain!

    A very timely decision.Really appreciated.What happened in pumpwell yesterday.We have seen this through our own eyes.If we mess with nature it will strike back on its own.Everything went all in vain.
