Mangaluru, Jul 5: Tannirbhavi beach on the outskirts of the city is being developed fast as the 13th Blue Flag beach of India.
BVG India Limited of Poona is doing the work related to this project at a cost of Rs 7.56 crore. Tourists will be attracted by the Pine and Acacia trees that are tall and the shade they provide. New temporary constructions and various facilities are also the added attractions of this beach.
A waste processing unit is built to handle all the waste that generates on the one km long beach. This unit will segregate the waste. Dry waste will be given to the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), while the wet waste will be processed as compost and used as manure for plants and trees.
Grey water treatment plant is being constructed to handle the waste of toilets. Changing rooms and shower facility is done separate for men and women.
A kilometre-long wood polymer composed path way will be made across the beach. It will be 1.5 km wide. The walking will give the feeling of walking on a wooden bridge.
Office, first aid room, CCTV control room, five CC cameras, drinking water facility and five umbrellas to watch the sea with easy chairs are also being built.
A 400-meter area on the beach is safe swimming zone. Two watch towers are built for manning the visitors. Forty kW solar power generator plant, LED lights inside the park and beach road and 20 waste bins are also provided. Rescue boat, life jackets and sea-buoy rope arrangements are also done to safe guard the lives of visitors.
Already, 10 locals are recruited for housekeeping, two security guards, one supervisor and one manager.
All works will be completed towards the end of July and application will be sent for certifying the beach as a Blue Flag beach. The Blue Flag controller has made the initial inspection. The final inspection will be done by national and international judges.
A huge entrance door is being built from the MCC. Food stalls, tableaus, attractive frame for viewing sea and gabion wall will be major attractions.
