Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (TP)

Udupi, Jul 8: “My priority is for a solution during this term to prevent sea erosion that occurs every year in the district. A permanent solution will be found with the help of the state government or central government or both,” said district in-charge minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar after visiting the sea erosion affected stretch at Padubidri beach on Saturday July 8.

Speaking about damage caused by rain Hebbalkar said, “I was in contact with the authorities. Even though the rains started late in the district this time, seven people have died in the natural calamity. A compensation of Rs 5 lac each has been distributed. Fishermen and others are facing difficulties. I was instructing the deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) to take adequate precautionary measures to prevent loss of lives due to rains here.”

The minister directed the authorities to immediately distribute suitable compensation regarding the loss of human life, house damages and death of cattle due to rain and said that necessary action will be taken after receiving information about the construction of foot-bridge and small dams in the district.

Kaup MLA Suresh Shetty Gurme, DC Kurma Rao M, zilla panchayat CEO Prasanna H, SP Hakay Akshay Machhindra, tahsildar Srinivasa Kulkarni and others were present.

Despite being one of the highest tax-paying zones, Coastal Karnataka and Tulunadu continually receive inadequate development attention from the state government. Development funds are predominantly directed towards other regions in Karnataka, resulting in a lack of progress and infrastructure in our areas. Given these circumstances, it is becoming increasingly necessary for the local population to consider demanding separation from Karnataka and establishing a separate state. Such a move could help foster economic development, safeguard our unique culture, language, and ensure better allocation of resources for our region's advancement.
