Bengaluru, July 19: Keeping its pre-election promise to bring amendments to the Karnataka Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prohibition of Transfer of Certain Lands) Act, 1978, which is commonly known as the PTCL Act, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said a bill on the proposed amendments will be introduced during the current session of the State Legislature.
The Congress government walks the talk and keeps its promises. After taking steps to implement the Guarantees, the government is bringing the PTCL
amendment bill to demonstrate its commitment to the voters,’’ he said.
A special meeting of the State Cabinet has approved the amendment bill. The
special cabinet meeting was held two days after holding a meeting of leaders of Dalit communities and lawyers. The cabinet has decided to remove the time limit for filing complaints, the chief minister said.
Siddaramaiah had promised to bring the amendment to the PTCL Act in the
budget presented on July 17.
