Mumbai, Jul 31: The sea erosion at the areas close to the sea in the Karnataka coastal region has been acute. Jayashree Sri Krishna Parisara Premi Samithi held a press conference in this connection at Billava Bhavan auditorium, Santacruz east on July 22.

The samithi president L V Ameen said that there was no permanent solution for the protection of the lives and property of people living near sea shores. “Our samithi has sent several representations to the government requesting for a permanent solution. The sea erosion is being seen during the monsoon. The government should find a solution for it. Instead of the current break wall, spending crores of rupees, a strong concrete wall will solve the issue once and for all and the people will be able to sleep at night. Parisara Premi Samithi has brought about several projects for the people through the government for the development of the district. The government should take action against sea erosion soon,” he said.

Founder of the samithi Thonse Jayakrishna Shetty said that sea erosion has increased in the coastal region in our district. “Several lives are lost and the property of several people is destroyed. Strong concrete wall from eight feet deep should be raised like on Marine drive. The government has spent several crores for breakwall during the last 40 years. But there have been problems and loss during monsoon every year. A request has been sent to the government through email in this connection. We will be meeting the concerned people personally next week and urge them to solve the problem. We will try to bring the issue to the notice of the centre and the state government. Mogaveera community people are living near the sea in large numbers. We will bring their problem to the notice of the government through our samithi and request for a concrete wall.”

“A request has already been submitted to the chief minister. The issue should be solved as soon as possible. Students are arriving from various places to the district for higher education. There has been pain and suffering in the district. Coastal guards should be deployed in the monsoon to save lives. There should be provision to inform the concerned rescue teams when students drown accidentally. May the issue reach the government heads so that it is solved soon,” he said.

Journalist Dayasagar Chouta explained about sea erosion and the problems of ordinary people.

Samithi vice president Nithananda D Kotian explained the intention of the press conference. Samithi honorary chief secretary Surendra Salian Mundkoor rendered a vote of thanks.
