Udupi: Student council inaugurated at MAHE's dept of commerce

Udupi, Aug 13: MAHE's department of commerce commenced the academic year 2023-24 with the inauguration of the student council on August 12. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Akshay Machhindra IPS, SP Udupi, the ceremony was presided over by Dr Sandeep Shenoy, head of the department of commerce.

Addressing the gathering, Akshay Machhindra, SP Udupi, emphasized the importance of balanced contributions across all domains for a prosperous future. He articulated, "While financial success is commendable, the question of prudent investments after earning is equally significant. Understanding future value is crucial, but ensuring a secure future holds equal weight." He further elaborated on the necessity of preparedness among students to face market challenges and navigate the intricacies of the economy. Drawing attention to the dichotomy between managing growth and inflation, he also underscored the need to avoid vices and distractions such as substance abuse. He encouraged students to channel their freedom into constructive avenues and cultivate hobbies instead of habits.

In his presidential remarks, Dr Sandeep Shenoy encouraged students to proactively address challenges and generate innovative solutions. He highlighted practical exposure as one of the unique selling points (USPs) of the institution. The Student Council plays a pivotal role in organizing a diverse range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to foster student engagement. He emphasized the significance of moulding students into responsible and valuable global citizens during their time at the institution.

The event culminated in the administration of the oath of office to the student office bearers of the council, followed by the distribution of office badges. Dr. Everil Fernandes extended a warm welcome to the attendees, and Dr Rita Rani Chopra introduced the chief guest, Akshay Machhindra. Akanksha Dutta, president of the Student Council, extended a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude for the inspiring words and guidance provided by the dignitaries.

Distinguished faculty members including Dr Rashmi Yogesh Pai, UG head; Dr Mathew Thomas Gil, assistant UG head; Dr Shilpa Gopal, BBA programme coordinator, Abhishek Rao, BCom coordinator, Dr Everil Fernandes, head of student council; and Dr Rita Rani Chopra, assistant head of student council, were also present to grace the occasion.
