Puttur, Aug 16: Puttur police have registered a case pertaining to the death of a boy on August 14.

A young boy who complained of stomach ache was brought to a private hospital here for treatment where he also underwent a surgery. While he was being shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment the boy breathed his last on the way as he did not respond to the treatment provided at the hospital.

The deceased is identified as Srijith (17), who hailed from Kasaba village in Sullia.

On August 12 in the night, Srijith was admitted to a private hospital near the old taluk office of Puttur after he had complained of stomach ache.

The duty doctor examined him and admitted him as an in-patient. On August 13 in the morning, the doctors who examined Srijith directed that he be operated on. Srijith underwent the operation at 6 pm and was later shifted to the ICU and then to the ward where they informed the Srijith's family about surgery before going ahead with other treatment.

On August 14 at 9 am, the doctors said the hospital does not possess the right equipment to nurse the boy. Srijith was told to be taken to Mangaluru. Srijith's family members took him in an ambulance to a private hospital in Mangaluru where the doctors examined him and declared him dead, as per the complaint filed by Srijith's uncle Krishna with the Puttur town police where a case has been registered.

Meanwhile, members of the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (DSS) staged a dharna in front of the private hospital in Puttur alleging that the hospital's negligence had led to the death of the young boy.

Tahsildar G Shivashankar who paid a visit to the spot met the protesters and accepted a memorandum submitted by them besides trying to mollify them.

Later, the protesters withdrew their protest.

We should have a strong unbiased regulatory system in place to look into these cases of Medical Negligence, unfortunately the poor and middle class cannot afford the fees of lawyers to fight these cases and long delays in the judicial system where the powerful hospital managements eventually win .

Anton Mangalore ,yes ,many possibilities are there for a operation.Quite possible a Appendix burst or a acute one, second some problems of stomach Digestive system ?We dont know what op they did.Not exactly .When acute appendix is should be operated within 24 hours. But already burst when bringing or has other complications Immediately put on drip with antibiotics.Exactly what happened cant guess.Poor boy lost his life very sad .many times burst appendix can make lot of problems.or any intestine had problems ?May his soul rest in peace..Heartfelt sympathy to his family. When hospital has no proper facilities ,they shouldnt have taken and operated.transporting a intensive care case is dangerous.
