Mangaluru, Aug 17: NRI entrepreneur, singer, actor and philanthropist Joseph Mathias opined that Indians should know their rights and learn to respect the rights of others. Instead of asking what the country has done for us, we should think of what we can contribute to the society.

He was speaking after distributing the aid to needy on the occasion of 77th independence day of India. The event was organised by Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha at Ashokangara Higher Primary School on August 15.

As many as five beneficiaries were given medical aid, 20 senior citizens were given saree and dhoti, school uniforms were distributed to students from Balawadi.

Speaking on the occasion, Arun Danti Pernal, who arrived as a honorary guest for the programme said, “Joseph Mathias is a good singer, actor, philanthropist and above all a kind hearted person. God has created mothers as it is not possible for him to be present everywhere. But I feel God has created a father like Joseph Mathias in order to help the needy people. Mathias who grew in a small village like Kuppepadavu, went to Mumbai and Dubai and has created employment opportunities for hundreds of people in his company. Let God bless his industry and make it spread all over the world.

Adding he said, “We have plenty of crorepatis in our country. But all will not have the kind heartedness to share the same with others. Joseph Mathias comes every year spending on the costly air tickets from Dubai. He gives help to beneficiaries directly. There are no middlemen. I have visited his Dubai residence. I have seen his simplicity and love towards human beings as well as animals and birds. Joseph Mathias is a living example to prove that those who love birds and animals are emotional people. The personality of Joseph Mathias is the rarest of rare.”

Joseph Mathias, along with Ashokanagara Yuvaka Mandala, is giving medical aid, uniform to school children, wheel chairs, sarees, cycles and sewing machines to the needy on the occasion of Independence Day for the past 16 years. Initially Late Henry D’Souza used to join hands with Joseph Mathias. After his death in 2018, Joseph Mathias single-handedly sponsors the whole scheme every year in the name of his late parents Mary Mathias and Lawrence Mathias.

Every year, Joseph Mathias flies from Dubai to Mangaluru to attend in the Independece Day programme organized by Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha. Chethan Kumar of AShokanagara Yuvaka Mandala said that Joseph Mathias is involved in Independence Day programme organized by the association for the past 16 years and has given away medical aid, wheel chairs, school uniforms, sarees, bicycles and sewing machines to the needy people.
