Mangaluru, Aug 29: State revenue minister Krishna Byre Gowda visited Dakshina Kannada district in order to review the progress of work pertaining to the revenue department and visited the new deputy commissioner (DC) office which is under construction since the last several years at Padil on Tuesday August 29.

Speaking to media, Krishna Byre Gowda said, “In order to examine the work progress and to see how the government officials are responding to the needs of the public, the inspection of lower level offices of revenue department such as village accountant office, sub registrar office, tahsildar record room will be undertaken. After going through the problems faced by the public, a general meeting will be held along with the officials to focus on the major problems concerning the survey department and revenue cases. We want the government to work for the needs of the public and finish the work within a given time.

“Even though the construction of the DC office at Padil was initiated in 2017- 2018, the work is yet to be completed. The original estimate of the construction has been divided into phase 1 and phase 2. In phase 1, the cost has escalated more than the approved budget. This project was approved long back by the previous government and even now, this work is being carried out under the approval of the previous government itself. However, the approval for the second phase is still pending.

“For now, our main concern is to shift the DC office and that is our main priority. This has to be carried out as soon as possible. Shifting of the other departments will be done within a time period of 5 to 8 months. By this, we hereby take the responsibility to complete the pending works of the DC establishment as well as visit various departments starting from village accountant office to DC office and also examine the problems faced by the district. The DC has been already informed to revise the estimation of pending construction work and also to segregate the essential items in the first and second phase. However, we will try our best to complete the pending work and shift the DC office within a year,” he said.

DC Mullai Muhilan was also present.
