Thousands protest in Udupi demanding justice for Sowjanya

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Aug 30: A large-scale protest gathering took place near the Udupi Ajjarkad Martyr's Memorial, organized by the Udupi District Sowjanya Struggle Committee, to demand the identification and stringent punishment of the actual culprits in the court rape and murder case of Sowjanya.

Before the assembly, demonstrators visited the Ananteshwar and Krishna Math in Udupi to offer prayers and then marched from Krishna Mutt to Ajjarakadu.

Addressing the gathering, pro-Sowjanya activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi declared, "Our fight has extended over the past 11 years. If our protest is considered a stain, we will not remain passive. We are engaged in a silent form of resistance. If this trend persists, we will escalate our struggle. We will amass protests of unprecedented scale at Dharmasthala. I wish to caution the chief minister, home minister, and prime minister. Why safeguard the accused? Do you leave mothers to us? We also have maternal relationships. Do you comprehend the stature of Goddess Durga? There are Durgas who fight not for profit, but for truth, faith, and justice. Speaking is not mere words for us. Our tax money funds investigations. A staggering Rs 80 crores have been expended on probing this case. Is the populace's tax value insignificant? Reflect on the present status of the chief minister and home minister—when Sowjanya's demise occurred, they chose to close the Sowjanya case.

“Even Shobha Karandlaje, the local MP, was at Dharmasthala that day, yet she neglected to visit Sowjanya's bereaved family. Shobha Karandlaje lacks an understanding of parenthood, and thus, she fails to grasp the anguish of Sowjanya's mother. We are rooted in our faith. Despite the family's court complaint, no action was taken against the accused. At present, we can only voice the truth verbally, as there is no written record; it was consumed and obliterated by the then police. Our nation's judicial framework demands rectification. This struggle will persist for the upcoming two to three months. The individual accused by Sowjanya's mother must face appropriate consequences,” he said.

Sowjanya's mother Kusumavati, spiritual thinker Thammanna Shetty, and numerous pilgrims joined the event.

Simultaneously, police ousted supporters from the Dharmasthala constituency who had gathered for the demonstration, while security was beefed up at the site.

Beti Bachao, Beti Padao - what happened to these favorite slogans of BJP. Are they only for declaring hifi schemes to please women to get votes during election time or to give justice. Why no women ministers of BJP are talking of this issue or of Manipur rape victims. Looks like all eye wash. Only God should give justice now.

I hope Sowjaynya gets justice soon. Those who protested yesterday, I am sure more than half didn't even utter a word regarding the injustice that happened to Bilkis Banuas she is from Muslim community. BJP is a country destructive fire which will reach to your doors next unless you douse that fire when its at other communities door.

Too little too late.... Nothing will change in this fascist set up.... All evidence destroyed... Monsters have lived as per their whims n fancies for last 12 years... Even if justice is served now it may be half baked and may not douse the arrogance of the perpetrators... See how remorseless and jubilant are Bilkis Bano attackers... Somewhere it gives a feeling that yesterday's protest is a eye wash from the saffron fortress... Sending only low caste followers (Guinea pigs) to the protest but leaders n high caste handlers clearly absent....

Where is bjpee, bd , vhp activists in this protest? Are they not going to fight for justice for hindus? Or do they work only when muslims can be blamed? Biggest eye opener this is for my hindu brothers. Plz value your education. Dont insult your vote, the way they insult you by 200rs less in gas price.

You must be colour blind, when youll notice even a single person with orange cloth youll scream Bd, Vhp ,RSS , unfortunately you dont see any in photographs right ? hindus may not have the unity your community has but they arent stupids, yes people should value their votes and not vote for parties promising freebies like free bus, free electricity, free rice , free Rs 2000, on the other hand cost milk, electricity other commodities are hiked, are you aware after now in karnataka guide lines value is increased by 100% , so all those middle class people dreaming of buying and registering thier property have to pay 100% more tax than earlier ,

You are perfectly right Mr. Nithin. If Rs.200.00 reduction on gas price is an insult then what about 5 guarantees ? Rs. 200 discount is not subject to any conditions at any stage of implementation.

To be justified in what way ? What about the 4.5year profit in the pockets of unknown sources ? Personally I would have agreed if Govt. returns amount @200/per cylinder purchased by common people in 4.5year. During the election this stunt by any political parties is like playing with fools. And we common people fight with each other naming you are from Congress, BJP, JD etc etc. Finally Goal is accomplished for Political benefits after looting huge lump sum from citizens.

Unity is absent when stupidity is present. Talking about freebies, lakhs of Saffron supporters are happy travelling Free, they are excited when their electricity is free.. the below suits well. Baap ki chaddi phat gayi hai, lekin beta rally mein jaake "modi.. modi.. modi"
