Pakistan - Born Australian Cricketer Granted India Visa

Sydney, Aug 10 (IANS): Pakistan-born Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja was Wednesday granted an Indian visa thus making him eligible to play in September's Champions League Twenty20 if he is picked up by New South Wales.

Khawaja's visa was processed by the Indian High Commission here. The New South Wales squad for the Champions League will be announced later this week.

Khawaja and Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed Tuesday that the batsman's visa was held up by officials at the Indian High Commission. Khawaja is the first Muslim to play Tests for Australia.

But the New South Wales cricketer finally got the nod to travel to India Wednesday morning.

Cricket New South Wales chairman Harry Harinath thanked Indian Consul General at Sydney Amit Dasgupta for the prompt attention.

"We are delighted to say that the issue has been resolved. Thanks to Mr. Amit Dasgupta for settling the matter quickly," said Harinath.
