New Delhi, Aug 13: After the Delhi police said that team Anna could hold the hunger strike only for a few days, activist Anna Hazare wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh slamming the 22 conditions imposed on his fast which is scheduled to begin on August 16.
He condemned the move saying that such a peaceful protest has never been stopped by democracy in history. Anna's team had requested for permission to conduct the protest for about 30 days.
The undertaking stated that only 4000 to 5000 people, 50 cars and 50 bikes will be allowed. The letter has also stated that 'no plants can be harmed'!
Lokpall Bill drafting committee member Prashant Bhushan also said that the move was illegal and unconstitutional. He said, "Sitting on a fast is the most peaceful way of protest. If they don't give us permission, people will go and sit on a protest at Jantar Mantar, we will use our fundamental right."
The Delhi government has asked for an undertaking stating that Anna will stop his fast on the third day. Only after that will they give the venue for the protest. However, team Anna has refused to sign the undertaking.
In support to Anna's anti-corruption movement, members of the 'India Against Corruption' organization demonstrated outside the UN building in New York.
