Bagalkot, Sep 17: The police have confiscated a KIA car at Mudhol of Bagalkot district that was bought from the Rs 5 crore money that Chaithra Kundapura and her gang took from entrepreneur Govinda Babu Poojary of Udupi district on the promise of getting him a MLA ticket in the recently concluded assembly elections. The cops have also seized gold ornaments and money that was kept in the bank.
CCB police confiscated the car belonging to Chaithra Kundapura. The car was with Kiran, who is said to be friend of Chaithra. Kiran had brought the car to Mudhol from Solapur. Kiran was running a car driving school. Police have also taken Kiran into custody along with the car.
The police have also confiscated property worth Rs 3 crore that belonged to Chaithra. Fixed deposits for Rs 1.8 crore in the name of Chaithra and Srikanth have also been confiscated.
Police also seized Rs 40 lac that was kept in local society in which Chaithra’s brother-in-law was the manager. As much as Rs 65 lacs worth of gold ornaments that were bought from the ill gotten money was kept in Chaithra’s house which is also in police custody now.
The police have also seized Rs 45 lac from the house of Srikanth, friend of Chaithra. Halashree Swamiji who is the third accused in the case has already returned Rs 50 lacs to entrepreneur Govinda Poojary.
There is also information about property being bought by Chaithra. The video of the same has been captured and the property has been seized by the government.
Chaithra and gang is alleged to have shared Rs 3 crore among one another that was taken from Govinda Poojary on the promise of providing the latter a BJP ticket to contest from Karkala.
At 6 am on October 29, 2022, the money was collected on Karkala-Mangaluru road. Later, at around 10.30 am, the cash was brought to Maravanthe Beach. Only Rs 10 lacs out of Rs 3 crore was shared at the house of Chaithra Kundapura. Later, Chaithra and Gagan joined Srikanth, who was waiting at the Maravanthe Beach with the remaining Rs 2.9 crore cash. The same has been shared by the three accused.
Chaithra reportedly invested about Rs 15 lacs to renovate her elder sister’s house at Koteshwara. She had also bought a new plot of land at Koteshwara. It is learnt that Srikanth Nayak is also building a new house at Karkala.
