Mangaluru Sep 20: District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao inaugurated Kudmul Ranga Rao women's hostel, for pre- matriculation and post-matriculation students at PVS on Wednesday September 20, in association with district administration, zilla panchayat and district social welfare department.
Addressing the gathering, Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “We are need of such hostels. As many as 270 students can be accommodated in this hostel. The hostel will be remembered for the contribution of Kudmul Ranga Rao who stressed on education and raised voice for those denied education and set a revolution rolling back then. The new hostel is constructed in the place where an old building used to exist.”
MLA Vedavyas Kamath said, “The foundation stone for this building was laid during my last term. The building worth Rs 10 crore is inaugurated today. There was a need of a new hostel building as the old building was in a dilapidated state. Kudmul Ranga Rao’s contribution towards education should always be remembered. His works should be made known to the public.”
Speaker U T Khader, mayor Sudhir Shetty, district Congress president Harish Kumar, deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan, zilla panchayat CEO Dr Anand, corporator A C Vinayaraj and others were present.
Deputy director of social welfare department Malathi B welcomed the gathering.
