Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 14: In connection with a case of a woman being verbally abused on a bus, the police have arrested the bus driver and conductor.

The arrested individuals are Bharat Salian and Shivakumar, accused in the case. The complainant, Mufeeda Rehman, a lawyer residing in Jalalabagh, Deralakatte, boarded a bus with Route No 19, named Ashel. When the driver began moving the bus before Mufeeda could board properly, the conductor, who was standing on the footboard, grabbed her hand and helped her onto the bus. Subsequently, the conductor allegedly subjected the woman to verbal abuse until she disembarked from the bus. A complaint was filed against both the driver and conductor for psychological harassment.

On Friday, the accused were arrested and presented before the Sixth JMFC court.

They have been remanded to judicial custody. Assistant Public Prosecutor Janardhana B represented the prosecution.

Albeit I travel very rarely in these buses it is my understanding that these private buses are the main cause of traffic accidents in DK and Udupi districts. Therefore it is highly recommended to Nationalize these private buses at the earliest. That would ultimately put an end to the problems of the private buses having no business.

Politicians, government employees and these bus staff are the same. We pay their salaries thru our payments and they act like lord wellington. Citizens should take initiative and show them their rightful place that is jail. Well done.

Hats off to the lawyer lady. It serves both the conductor and bus driver right. One is rash driving & rowdy elements not fit for society. Both driver and conductor should be given 1 year imprisonment without bail. Once again hats off to the brave lady lawyer. All the public commuters must unite.

Peculiar people of DK. As a student, I have often seen these arguments between conductor and passengers. The people just keep quiet, and when the passenger gets off, they join the conductor in making fun of the passenger. Chamchagiri.

Auto And Bus drives and conductors are full of hatred, its because of WhatsApp university run by BJP IT cells, Mangalorean's were the most loving and decent people with helping nature, all this changed only in 10 years. Never ever seen so much hared in my home town. Only solution for tis is BJP has to be wiped out from the roots which is RSS

Atleast ban the private bus mafia in the DK and then notice the difference. The drivers of DK are so stupid that they move first and later on use the signal. When KSRTC is plying on all DK routes women will surely be happy.

In my view., lawyer should have exabit gratefulness... as the Conductor assisted her from causing harm b'coz of reckless driving. In general the expecting emotionally controlled behavioral from Bus staff is some what over expectation., All said & done let the law take its own course of action., though i strongly advise a reconciliation & pardon by the honorable Lawyer. Meanwhile let there be a lesson to other bus operators.,

A simple warning should suffice, considering that the driver and conductor may be the primary providers for their families. Instead of punitive action, it might be more appropriate to challenge the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in court for failing to establish policy-driven qualifications for drivers and conductors. There should be an orientation session for drivers and conductors to instill a sense of public and civilized conduct.

This bus on Route No 19 is notorious for such rude behavior and rash driving. What the lady did was absolutely right and within the law. If you have some spare time, please conduct some orientation sessions. RTO has better things to do.

All your remarks on the driver and conductor being providers for their family is very well said, but they should understand their responsibilities before boarding the bus and performing all the prayers in front of the various Gods etc. Work is worship... The bus owner association should take up the lead in training and sensitising the Drivers and Conductors on their roles in a rapidly changing socio/economic society bolstered by the increasing use of the internet ( whatsapp instagram). Their roles today are that of Service providers...Period.
