Anti-Anna Groups Surface in Virtual World

New Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS): Anna Hazare has hogged the limelight in the virtual world. However it's no longer just voices in support of the elderly leader and his movement -- there has been a steady rise of those opposing it as well.

On social networking site Facebook for instance, a group named "I hate Anna Hazare" has registered 2,301 supporters.

Wrote Vijayan Kallil, one of the supporters: "The Jan Lokpal bill will create a totalitarian monster in the name of fighting corruption. It must never be passed."

Agreed Samir Sharma. "The Jan Lokpal bill demands the creation of something like a supreme power which no one can question. That in itself is against the idea of democracy."

Hazare's fast to demand a strong anti-corruption Lokpal bill entered the eighth day Tuesday. He and his team have been camping at the Ramlila Maidan since Friday along with thousands of supporters from across the country.

Questioning the method adopted by the social activist, Rajiv Shukla said on Orkut: "I don't support Anna...but that does not mean that I support corruption. I just don't agree with Anna's method of blackmailing the government."

"We are a democracy for goodness sake, you have to respect the parliamentary procedures. We all want an end to corruption," he added.

Rashmi Sharma wrote: "I was at the Ramlila ground and I must have asked at least 20 people if they know the difference between the Lokpal bill submitted by the government and the Jan Lokpal bill and the only answer I got was 'we support Anna, we don't want corruption'".

"If you don't know what is that you are asking for, then isn't this blind faith," she asked.
