Mangaluru, Nov 10: The 'Edupath Lecture Series' for the second PU students continued with its fifth talk on November 6. The topic was science bachelor degree courses and prospects in fisheries, veterinary, and other allied sciences, delivered by S M Shivaprakasha, former dean, Mangaluru College of Fisheries.
The programme was conducted to make students of PCMB batches cognizant of various career opportunities in agro-related fields encapsulated a wide plethora of anecdotes and technical knowledge that overjoyed the enthusiastic students in sheer pursuit of unique opportunities. He spoke about the scope, eligibility, admission process, and career opportunities in these fields. He also shared his personal experiences and insights with the students.
Shivaprakasha playfully yet elaborately explained the importance and role of the fishing industries in the economy of India and the world. Additionally, the importance of agriculture and aquaculture as industries suited to meet the needs of
the growing Indian population was explored along with a fact-based presentation on the competitive academic backdoor to these fields which made the occasion one of the intense values to the students.
Addressing the students, he said, “Fisheries science is a career option for those who are passionate about managing and understanding the various aspects of fisheries.” He added that candidates who want to continue their education after earning a bachelor's degree might pursue a master's degree in the same field. The programme was inaugurated by the principal Prof Ramachandra Bhat, who also presented a floral bouquet to the guest speaker. Himani from the E2 batch compered the programme.
