Very sad and bad.I say it is the present sickness of girls .I dont see her as a fat student. Many times girls hold their Mobile and do pictures sides front line back line etc.Its natural when girls are fat or thin in their early teen age.Later it will change automatically when time goes by have children etc. They shouldnt be ashamed of their fatness May be she is born so or genetic.some are as a child fat .specially they are not tall. Its in their head.Someone must advice such persons first of all concentrate on their studies ,then to their body mass.First of all when such girls are heriditory fat?or sick with?Clear that first .Then do some training .Go for a walk, take a fatfree diat .and think you are fat but beutiful Why shame yourself so long not sick?Damm with others critic.Be self sure and do your studies.Think of your Parents who never thought fat but a good girl.Sad now this doesnt reach to her.Hope atleast otherones think about it.May her soul rest in Peace.Heartfelt sympathy to her family.

Mental health is a complex problem. Most students go through anxiety and some kind of despair at some stage in their student life. Institutes have been made accountable in many Indian Universities for challanges that a student may go through. Most convent schools in metros and bigger cities provide councilling and encourage them to be part of student communities to share thier concerns. Negativity is everywhere. Stay away from such throughts. You see a lot of nagative comments here as well :)

What foolishness! It's unbelievable that being a doctor herself and ethically tasked with saving someone's life, she can take such a step.

She is not a doctor yet. She is a student. Secondly, a doctor is also a human being who goes through the same emotions and pressures as any other human being.

Kujumaji; Imagine after getting high the previous night; how they might be managing to study a so called life saving profession like medicine! This is all magic of big money at play during admission and the exhorbitant fees and subsequent passing out..... you can imagine the knowledge level and quality of the end product; pathetic state of affairs; no words to express the degradation that has seeped into a so called noble profession! Sorry state of affairs! God only can come to their rescue and the patients who finally go to them for treatment!!😔😔🙏

Dear Rudolf Rodrigues, Mumbai -Mangalore, I completely agree with your questioning line. The answer is a hard reality of the education system that is trying hard to deal with the scale and consequent competition. Those who want to be on the top of their peers undergo tremendous mental pressure that clearing competitive exams is the new skill which has nothing to do with understanding of the subject at large. Because there is no time for reflection - they are trained to act impulsively. To this end, I am of the opinion that, the graduation from uncooked to mature of our upcoming generation takes that much long compared to previous generations. They are imbibed with pressures of coming first in the rat race. Academic understanding and maturity derived from there takes time to evolve. Add to that the need to communicate on level that everybody relates, academic understanding (skill) and maturity are just not able to meet in the middle. Result is creation of skinny idols who have widespread acceptability in the ecosystem. The current crop is facing the pressure of navigating the transition from low numbers to unmanageable high numbers which is projected as strength of India of the tomorrow.

Being a student of one of the so called reputed medical institutions in Mangalore, it's really shocking to know that she comitted suicide because of a problem (obesity), which could have been easily solved by lifestyle changes, exercises etc. in consultation with an experienced nutritionist after a full health checkup! Moreover, a person with depression and suicidal ideation gives "definite clues" long before pulling the plug, which should have been easily identifiable by her fellow medical students or by her medical teachers, this being a full fledged teaching hospitals and tertiary medical care institution! I wonder how their students welfare and counseling system works 😔! May her soul rest in peace 🙏

@ Mayyaji, taking a broader view on this sad episode, it's shocking that none of her colleagues or even the teachers couldn't catch her prodromal symptoms of depression, which always has definitive symptoms in change of behavioral patterns and emotions much before it explodes and culminates into suicide; this should have been easily caught by some of them, this being a full fledged tertiary medical care institution with comprehensive departments of psychology and psychiatry and dietetics and nutrition!! A potential medical doctor falling to outside influences, like advertisements as enumerated by you, are not acceptable as there are proven methods to tackle this mental issue through both counseling and medications and lifestyle/dietary changes for obesity, which the medical institution has at the highest professional level??

A good suggestion.. bad parenting that exists in society there. Many people are victims of this apart from this departed soul. To be an Indian, we are worse in planet. Caste , colour , richness, fatness, religion we are highly biased at home and then in family that we extend to society. No one introspects. No one realises reality. I bet we are most biased and that is how worst racism in western life doesn't mere count when I do self reflection

Thanks to the skin scrapping obsession of fashion industry which celebrates a line drawn on paper as fashion and where malnutrition is celebrated, we have this kind of situation. Really feel sorry for the parents of this child and equally our society because, if she as alive, she could have saved many lives and continued with education and took the purpose of her life to logical conclusion. Fashion sense and industry thereof is synonymous with top of the mind of empty and unused brains. Kids, please do not fall for it. First impression is actually not the best impression - experienced never fall for this silly proverb.

Depression and obesity are interlinked ... Root cause many a times is over eating when depressed .... Sadly did not consult right persons .. possibly a psychologist etc Mental health need not be derided ... Now a young student gone forever parents have to live with this ... Now one can only pray to give strength to parents near and dear ones to bear the loss ..... RIP ...

The world is marching ahead with new innovations, discoveries and scientific progress but unfortunately the other side human mind is frustrated, unable to face the challenges and finally giving up easily by sacrificing one's own valuable life.I feel worldly things and spirituality should move together so that human mind will able to cope up with challenges and accept things which we can can not change.

@Shirley; I agree with your latter views that it's the duty of the institution to ensure that their students are in optimum mental and physical health to be able to take the tough grind of graduation studies of 51/2 years! Apparently, she is an outstation student put up in the hostel; how the parents will know what is brewing up with her from a far away place? IMHO, it was the duty of the students welfare committee head to notice the changes in her behaviour and talking ( depressed patients give distress calls to their friends at the least before doing the final act); always being in the midst of medical students and professional teachers, her depression should have been immediately noticed and brought to the notice of the parents so that with their active involvement along with professional help she would have come out of her phobia of being obese! I have no words to express my anguish for the same! However, we can't expect any action whatsoever as money and power reign supreme here🙏🙏🙏!

Many parents push their children to study medicine despite the child not having aptitude or interested in the same; this is one of the main reason for suicide! Parents must understand that there are n number of professions which can be pursued with very decent income and job satisfaction, hence it's imperative that the child be taken to a career counselor for evaluation of the child's aptitude in case of any doubt, instead of forcing the child into medicine and wasting money on capitation fees and later sky high fees for each year! Please don't force any child into a profession which he/she doesn't like 🙏

Medicine, today, is totally commercialized, after the entry of politicians and corporate entities into the medical colleges business along with the deep pocketed pharma cartels, and no more can be considered as a noble profession; majority take admission in pvt medical colleges with a view of making fast money!!

Current generation need mental health, basic life teachings, how to deal with problems.

May her soul rest in peace!! Young and old both seem to be going through a horrid phase; many are suffering from depression due to bottled up emotions attributable to various psychosocial factors including financial collapse! Unless the depressed persona opens out to someone knowledgeable and close or to a mental health professional, the end result is suicide; never know when the tripping point is reached!
