New Delhi, Dec 3: In a political upheaval, the Congress party faced a setback in the assembly election results for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, succumbing to the sweeping influence of the Narendra Modi wave. The post-election predictions were also overturned, reshaping the dynamics of power.
Among the five states, namely Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, the BJP emerged victorious in three, while the Congress secured a victory in only one state.
In Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, the Congress party found itself overwhelmed by the Narendra Modi tsunami, defying earlier survey calculations. Predictions had suggested a close contest between Congress and BJP in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, with BJP eventually clinching power. Conversely, it was anticipated that Congress would ascend to power in Chhattisgarh and Telangana. However, the results tell a different story, with BJP securing a decisive majority in three states, leaving Congress triumphant in only one.
Despite Congress's previous success in the 2018 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, the party faced a significant setback in the recent polls. The rebellion led by Jyotiraditya Singh in 2020 allowed BJP to capitalize on the situation through Operation Kamal, leading to the resignation of approximately 22 Congress MLAs who then pledged support to BJP, reinstating Shivraj Singh Chauhan as the Chief Minister. In the current election, BJP secured a comfortable victory with 169 seats, while Congress lagged behind with around 60 seats.
Similarly, in Rajasthan, the Congress experienced a major setback, bowing to the massive Modi wave. In the 2018 assembly elections, Congress emerged as the largest party with 99 seats out of 200. However, the recent election results depict a sharp decline for Congress, securing only 71 seats, while BJP claimed a total of 114 seats.
In Chhattisgarh, the Congress, which had governed for five years following its victory in the 2018 assembly elections, faced an unexpected decline in voter support. Despite initial leads in the vote counting, the Congress lost ground, allowing BJP to secure victory with 55 seats, while Congress reached close to 35 seats in the 90-seat assembly.
Amidst these defeats, Telangana emerged as the only saving grace for Congress. Despite facing an anti-incumbency wave, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) led by CM Chandrasekhar Rao suffered a resounding defeat in Telangana. Congress won 66 out of 119 seats, while BRS settled for 38 seats. BJP secured 8 seats, and Asaduddin Owaisi's party claimed 7 seats.
In summary, the BJP achieved a significant triumph by winning three out of the five states in the elections, setting the tone for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Congress, however, managed to avert a complete humiliation by securing power in Telangana.

New Delhi, Dec 3: In the ongoing Assembly poll vote counting, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is establishing a comfortable lead in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, with an ambitious target of wresting Chhattisgarh from the Congress. Simultaneously, the Congress in Telangana is positioned to unseat the BRS government led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, marking a significant shift in the power dynamics of another southern state.
Both the BJP and the Congress strategically framed their campaigns with an eye on the upcoming general elections. The BJP, having secured victories in Gujarat and Tripura last year but facing setbacks in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh, seeks wins in these state elections to bolster its momentum leading up to the Lok Sabha polls. Conversely, the Congress is fervently aiming to secure victories in a couple of states, anticipating that these triumphs will strengthen its position during seat-sharing negotiations with allies in the INDIA bloc.
In the initial phases of the counting process, the Bharatiya Janata Party appears poised to reclaim power from the Congress in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while maintaining its stronghold in Madhya Pradesh. In Telangana, the Congress is currently leading in 65 out of 199 seats, posing a challenge to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, which has governed the state for the past decade and is currently ahead on 39 seats. The unfolding electoral landscape promises significant implications for the political landscape, setting the stage for the impending national elections.
