Mangaluru, Dec 7: An accused in the murder case related to road access was sentenced to life imprisonment by city court.
The incident occurred on February 9, 2020 at Gandhinagar of Laila of Beltangady Taluk. Umesh Gowda (58), a resident of the locality, died in the incident. Yogish (55), neighbour of Umesh Gowda is the accused who is convicted by the court.
Umesh’s family used to pass by the mud road on the land belonging to accused Yogish to reach their house as it was quite near to them. On February 9, Nagesha brother of Umesh had gone out with his wife on account of his mother’s death anniversary. When they returned at 9.30 pm, accused Yogish had kept a hollow block across the road with the intention of preventing Nagesh, brother of Umesh and his wife from using the mud road.
Umesh who came to know about the road block asked Yogish to remove the same. Accused Yogish and his son Jeevan attacked Nagesh, Umesh and their family iron rod and later in a fit of rage Yogish stabbed Umesh on the chest and he died in the hospital.
Circle inspector of Beltangady Sandesh P G filed the chargesheet in the court. Yogish was in judicial custody since three years and nine months. His son Jeevan was released on bail.
Preeti KP, judge of second additional district and sessions (special) court, who conducted the inquiry pronounced Yogish as guilty and sentenced him to life while the second accused Jeevan, son of Yogish was acquitted. In addition, a fine of Rs three lac was slapped on the convict and the amount was directed to be paid to Leelavati, wife of deceased Umesh.
Jyoti Pramoda Nayaka, special public prosecutor argued for the prosecution.
