Udupi, Sep 6: “China is a vibrant market,” said Sir Jagdish Acharya, CEO, Asian PPG Limited.

He was delivering a lecture on ‘Challenges of Doing Business in China’ at Manipal Institute of Management (MIM) here, recently.

He threw insights on his experience of doing business in China. He said that team work, mutual dependence, relationships, trust, and social reciprocity are given great importance while doing business in China. Acharya also spoke about the typical characteristics of China, such as active government in promoting investments, investor-friendly business environment, and the infrastructure driven economy. He explained the huge market potential that exists in China.

Acharya emphasized that the Chinese are also aware of the perception of the western world about China, especially regarding the country’s practices related to intellectual property rights.

He was of the view that it requires courage on the part of enterprising business to enter the Chinese market.

Acharya pointed out the myth that surrounds Indian businesses that the Chinese market is a mystery. However, he believed that China has great potential for investments. He called for the adoption of an attitude of partnership rather than that of competition when doing business in China.

MIM director Professor Ramakrishna Chadaga welcomed the gathering. Divij Nath Pandya proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme was organised by FLAME, the marketing Forum for Learning, Advertising and Marketing Expertise (FLAME), of MIM.
