Mangaluru, Dec 15: The 36th annual conference "GCCON-2023" under the joint auspices of the Department of Geriatrics Medicine and Community Medicine of the Medical College of the University of Yenepoya, and the Karnataka Chapter of the Geriatrics Society of India will be held for two days on December 16 and 17 at the Yenepoya campus in Deralkatte, said Dr Prabha Akari, head of geriatrics department of Yenepoya Medical College.
In a press conference held at Thokkottu Press Club, Prabha Akar said that there is an opportunity for a master's degree in geriatrics at Yenepoya Medical College which has the only medical department in the district that treats senior citizens. More than 250 representatives of the country will participate in this conference and they will present more than 96 papers, he added.
He said that two types of treatment are being given to senior citizens in geriatrics department, while clinical geriatrics is treating the sick and preventive measures are being given to prevent the disease before the onset of the disease.
Head of post graduate department of Geriatrics, Dr Kishore Ubbaramgala said that the government of India is giving top priority to geriatrics and is starting this department for treating senior citizens in all district hospitals.
He said that this department includes all the departments of medical treatment along with social workers and plans are being made to provide effective treatment to senior citizens.
Dr Poonam Nayak, community health officer, department of geriatrics, Yenepoya Medical College was present at the press conference.
