Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 15: A seven-member committee headed by director of National Museum, C V Anand Bose, appointed by the Supreme Court to evaluate the assets found in the secret vaults of Lord Anantapadmanabha Temple here, has recommended to the Supreme Court to open the remaining lone vault, marked as ‘B’.
In doing so, it has overlooked the pleas of the royal lineage members and also the astrologers, based on findings of a divine query procedure, ‘Deva Prashanam’, that the region will face the fury of the presiding deity of the temple if this vault is opened.
The committee feels that opening of the room becomes imperative in view of the need to find out the condition of the room and take into account the value of wealth if any stored there. It also feels that assessment of the wealth in this vault will help in chalking out security strategies. These facts were contained in the interim report filed by the committee, which is expected to submit its final report in February next year.
“The six secret vaults of the temple located underground, are not safe enough. Under the current scenario, chances of theft cannot be ruled out. The onus of providing security to the vaults should be handed over to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Offices of various political parties, shops and hotels located around the temple should be evicted. Parking of vehicles near the temple should be banned. Policemen should train the temple security guards. All the security guards should be put through rigorous checks. Closed circuit television cameras should be installed around the temple,” the committee has recommended.
It may be recalled the Supreme Court had formed a committee comprising two members to oversee scientific valuation of the wealth uncovered from the temple vaults, which is being undertaken by a five-member committee. The approximate worth of gold ornaments and other things found at these vaults has been put between one to one and half lac crore rupees.
The royal family members, for whom Lord Anantapadmanabha is the family deity, and who head the trust which manages the temple, are opposed to the opening of vaults. At their instance, the procedure of divine query had been organized last month. This step had drawn criticism from the Supreme Court judges. The astrologers who participated in the ‘Deva Prashnam’ had warned that the Lord is angry at the valuation work undertaken, and also that the region will face calamities if ‘B’ vault opened. It had further predicted that those who open this vault may face divine wrath, including decimation of their entire lineage.
