Udupi, Feb 5: Upalokayukta Justice K N Phanindra conducted a surprise visit to the district hospital, state women’s home, and student hostels. During the inspection, he assessed the basic infrastructure, nutrition, cleanliness, medical facilities, and the state of children’s education.

The deputy Lokayukta reviewed public complaints lodged in boxes placed at surgical, women and children wards, emergency units, and the medicine distribution center. Additionally, he gathered information from patients regarding their treatment, food provisions, and medication administration.

Justice Phanindra expressed his intention to recommend the government to establish neurology, nephrology, and cardiology departments and transform the hospital into a super-speciality facility upon receiving a letter from the district hospital in-charge.

Engaging in discussions with children about education, social responsibilities, and their future aspirations, Justice Phanindra instructed officials to arrange for nutritious food, adequate lighting, clean environments, libraries, computers, and special monthly lectures to enhance their preparation for competitive examinations.

Furthermore, the Upalokayukta proposed utilizing lecturers to provide computer education in a manner easily comprehensible to children. He urged hostel wardens to ensure that each student has a bed and cot, and that there is no water scarcity in the hostels.

Inquiring about the quality of food and medical facilities in women’s homes, Upalokayukta recommended increasing the remuneration for self-employed individuals, specifically those earning Rs 12 per kg for incense sticks and Rs six per kg for seed removal from tamarind.

Deputy commissioner Dr Vidyakumari, CEO of zilla panchayat Prateek Bayal, Lokayukta Mangaluru superintendent C A Simon, SP Dr Arun K, M V Channakeshava Reddy, Rangegowda, Kiran P M Patil and others were present.

Why Upalokayukt ride or inspection ? Complaint should be lodged if there is any problem to DC first of all. DC should check or send his deputy for checking. If still any complaint, Upalokayukt must take action.
