Mangaluru: CCB police bust large ganja trafficking network, arrests two

Mangaluru, Feb 6: In a major breakthrough, the Mangaluru CCB Police successfully intercepted a Mahindra Bolero vehicle transporting a significant quantity of banned narcotic ganja from Orissa to Mangaluru city and Kerala. The operation, led by Mangaluru CCB Inspector Shyam Sundar H M, resulted in the seizure of 120 kg of ganja.

On Tuesday, February 6, the CCB police received specific information about the transportation of banned ganja in a Mahindra Bolero from Orissa to Mangaluru city.

Acting on this intelligence, the police arrested two individuals from Kerala, Anoop M S (28), a resident of Mulapalappil house, Vellar Mala post, Churamala village, Vaithiri taluk, Wayanad district and Latheef K V (36), of Kinakul Valipath house, Pathangodu, Padiyuru Village, Irikuru Post, Iritti Taluk, Kannur district.

The accused were taken into custody along with the silver-colored Mahindra Bolero bearing the registration number MH 04 EX 6576. The vehicle, in possession of the accused, was found carrying 120 kg of ganja valued at Rs. 28 lakhs. Additionally, the police confiscated three mobile phones and Rs. 4020 in cash. The total estimated value of the recovered ganja, Mahindra Bolero, and mobile phones is Rs 35,14,520.

The accused had a modus operandi of transporting ganja from Orissa through Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru. A case has been registered at CEN Crime Police Station, and further investigations are underway.

Both accused, hailing from Kerala, aimed to make illegal profits by selling the narcotic ganja to the public of Karnataka and Kerala. They procured ganja from Orissa and transported it to Mangaluru city and Kerala. The accused concealed the ganja in a separate iron box attached to the rear bumper of the Bolero vehicle, intending to smuggle it.

Anoop, one of the accused, has a criminal history with a robbery case registered against him in the Nanjangud rural police station of Mysuru district in 2018. Additionally, there is a case related to drug trafficking in Meppalli police station of Wayanad district, two robbery cases, one assault case in Kaltatta police station of Wayanad district, and two theft cases in Ambalavyal police station of Wayanad district.

The CCB unit, led by police inspector Shyam Sundar H M, and comprising Rajendra B, Narendra, Sudeep, Sharanappa Bhandary, PSI and ASI Mohan K V, Sheenappa, and CCB staff, played a crucial role in uncovering this extensive ganja trafficking network.
