Occupancy on Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat at below 50%

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 7: The occupancy on the Mangaluru Central-Madgaon-Mangaluru Central Vande Express has recorded less than 50% within a month of commencement of operation.

Train number 20646 Mangaluru Central-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express that was introduced on December 30, 2023, had reported 37% occupancy till January 26 while on its return journey Train number 20645 recorded a occupancy of 43%.

The Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat train carried 4,355 passengers and on its return journey it carried 5,194 passengers on 23 round trips, railway official figures show. The total available seats from end-to-end in each direction is 12,190 that includes 1,196 executive class tickets.

Passengers are now of the view that the Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express should be extended to Mumbai. They have also urged the Indian Railways to increase the number of coaches to 16 from 8 following the extension of the service up to Mumbai CSMT by amalgamating the Mumbai CSMT-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express with the Mangaluru Central-Madgaon train.

I am an avid traveller and have explored whole India .The First problem is route as because to run a train like vande bharat it should always run on profitable route Mangalore Madgaon is not at all a profitable route instead it should be Mangalore-Kochi or Mangalore to Trivandrum or else they should extend kasargod vande Bharat to mangalore Another profitable route is CSMT to Mangalore (to and fro)

There is a Vande Bharath from Madgao to Mumbai around 2pm. What can’t they combine these 2 trains and extend this train to Mumbai? That’ll be beneficial to our people.

That the train's occupancy falls below 50 per cent shouldn't come as a surprise considering that an earlier express train was barely a quarter full most of the time. The only way to make it cost effective is to extend its run all the way to Mumbai as many have suggested in these columns and may be reduce the travelling time stii more, if it is possible

Issue of time won't be solved till we have double tracks...I know double tracks aren't feasible now...but can they maybe try building another track over the existing one or an underground version...just maybe...wasting so much time n fuel doesn't make sense

It's not a common man fare train. Reduce the ticket fare , it will never go empty.

They should have extended this train up to Vasco since there is already a train to Madgaon. Such extension will also result in the required difference in return timings. Secondly as I said earlier it will not workout if they don’t give stops at important stations like Kundapur and Bhatkal.

All these types of trains will not run for long periods, these are all public attention-seeking programs and vote-seeking acts by party & waste of public tax money.

Usually it is very difficult to reserve a seat in these trains. But increasing the price by three times just because it is painted white and is supposed to be the brainchild of current government will not get passengers. Sad.

Then what about the other trains running via Mangalore to Mumbai, there will be no passengers in those trains. The inter city Mangalore - Margoa inter city round trip was idle. The present Government at the center made a total mess for the lower income passengers. The PM of the country thinks that everyone in the country are rich like his two friends who are rich.

Mangalore lost its top spot for high earners in Karnataka after IT boom in Bangalore. Even in IT field Mangalore gets half the salary compared to Bangalore. Currently people are earning to live. Goa being only for tourism people prefer not to go to Goa from Mangalore only for beaches. Who will spend such high price for the trains only to enjoy cheap liquor. Now here is the catch. Everyone will be forced to use Vande Bharat trains once enough trains are commissioned. They will discontinue the currently running trains stating they are old, safety issues, timing issues. Everyone will end up paying more for train journeys and finally Adani will take over the trains in India. We need to ask ourself is this really development?

The sleeper ticket from Mangalore to Goa is around Rs 435 in most of the trains.. In Vande Bharat train, the fare is Rs 1330 for chair car and Rs 2350 for executive chair car. We love India and Indian railways. But, we love our hard earned money too.
