Kasargod, Feb 9: “Scientific research should aim for a bright future for humans and the world,” said Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 36th Science Congress at Kasaragod Government College. “Scientific progress should be utilised in a responsible manner,” he said.
“Growth of scientific enthusiasm and logical thinking are the responsibility of every citizen as mentioned in the 51st chapter of the constitution. Some people are trying to topple that perspective and make ours a religious nation. Therefore, this should be a careful step,” he said.
“Everybody in the science sector should take up activities realising that the growth of science depends on social harmony. The 36th Science Congress will convert the economy of Kerala by means of health. It is necessary to give importance to the health of nature and other creatures along with humans. 60% of the contagious illnesses that affect humans are genetic. More than 70% of the new contagious diseases are genetic. Therefore, a means of health is essential for the safety and progress of humans,” he said.
“The state government has decided to progress with a health policy. The project is started in four selected districts in the first phase. Special training programmes were held in this connection. District-level officers and laboratory assistants provided special training to all,” he said.
Nobel award recipient professor Martin P Meldel was present. The chief minister presented awards to the best young scientists and authors.
Kerala science, technology and environment parishad president, professor K P Sudheer presided over the programme. The 36th Kerala Science Congress president Chennai M S Swaminathan, president of research foundation Dr Soumya Swaminathan explained the 36th Kerala Science Congress programmes.
Professor Martin said that the science and enthusiasm among the youth here has made him glad. DC K Imashekar and Kasaragod Government College principal Dr V S Anil Kumar spoke. MP Rajamohan Unnithan and MLA N A Nellikunnu released a book.
Dr S Pradeep Kumar, member of Kerala science, technology and environment parishad, welcomed. WRBM director Dr Manoj P Samuel proposed the vote of thanks.
