Udupi, Feb 14: “Every Indian citizen is responsible to uphold the Constitution of the country as it has given us freedom in this country,” said district commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari. She was speaking at the Constitution Awareness programme organised by the social welfare department and zilla panchayat in Malpe beach.
Addressing the public, deputy commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari said, “Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution has made a unique Constitution in the world. The Constitution has given freedom and equality to all with other rights to every people. Every law comes under the Constitution. Every people have to read the Constitution and follow its values. We should organise more of such programmes to create awareness among the people on their rights given by the Constitution. People should know about their basic rights such as freedom of religion, caste, profession and fundamental rights given by the Constitution. All the grama panchayats and urban local bodies should organise the awareness programme. Every person should take the advantages of these programmes” she added.
The Preamble of the Constitution was recited on the occasion.
Jayan Maple said that “The Constitution is like our breadth and saving it is our responsibility. We should organise such programmes at grama panchayat levels and thank the social welfare department for organizing such events."
Ashmith A J from Mangaluru recited the preamble of the Constitution. Suchitra, and students of the girls hostel under the social welfare department performed a dance in memory of Dr B R Ambedkar.
Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K, CEO of Zilla Panchayat Prateek Bayal, social welfare officer Anitha Mudluru, assistant director Roshan Kumar, Ramesh Naik, Dalit leaders Ramesh Kotian, Mangaluru sixth court public prosecutor Janardan and others were present.
