Mangaluru: 79th Independence Day celebrated at Manipal School

Mangaluru, Aug 22: Manipal School celebrated India's 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour on August 15. The chief guest for the occasion was Lt Colonel Vivek Bindra, a highly decorated officer of the Indian Army, who was accompanied by Bindra.

The chief guest was accorded a guard of honour on arrival. The celebration then commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by Lt Colonel Vivek Bindra, followed by the rendition of the national anthem. The occasion was graced by the principal, Srilatha S Alva; vice principal Shilpa Moger; headmistress, Sapna Shetty; PTA president, Sachin K J; PTA vice president, Sunita Furtado; Alumni Association president, Dr Kedar Kodkany, parents, teachers, and students.

In his inspiring address, Lt Col Vivek Bindra reflected on the Army’s motto “service before self” and reminded the gathering that the country’s safety, honour, and welfare must always come first. Encouraging the students to nurture independence and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress, he stated that true education should shape both the mind and the heart, quoting, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”

The cultural programme featured patriotic songs, vibrant dances, and a thought-provoking street play on national integration, filling the atmosphere with pride and joy. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks and the distribution of sweets to all.

The day’s events at Manipal School, served as a memorable reminder of India’s hard-earned freedom and the responsibility of every citizen to safeguard and strengthen the nation.
