Mangaluru: St Gerosa School incident – Case filed against five including MLAs

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Feb 15: A case has been filed at the Pandeshwar police station against two MLAs, two corporators of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), and the leader of an organization on charges of allegedly threatening the administrative board of St Gerosa School in the city.

The complaint names MLA Vedavyas Kamath of Mangaluru South legislative constituency, MLA Bharat Shetty of Mangaluru North legislative constituency, and corporators Bharat and Sandeep Garodi.

According to the complaint, an audio clip went viral accusing Sr Prabha, a teacher at St Gerosa School in Valencia, of making derogatory remarks about Hindu deities during a class. MLA Vedavyas Kamath, along with MLA Bharat Shetty and corporators Sandeep Garodi, Bharat Kumar, and Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell, allegedly raised slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram' outside the school without discussing the matter with the school's administrative board. They also purportedly made derogatory remarks against the Christian religion.

The accused are further accused of inciting students to disobey the school's rules, speaking against the school's administrative board, and issuing threats. The complaint alleges that their actions were aimed at disturbing the peace and harmony of Dakshina Kannada district.

In response to the controversy, the school administration board suspended Sr Prabha, the accused teacher, with immediate effect. Emphasizing the school's commitment to quality education, a new teacher has been appointed in her place.

The school administration board has requested cooperation for a transparent investigation by district-level officials. They also assured their commitment to adhering to the final orders of the inquiry and expect similar cooperation from the parents of the students to ensure educational progress.

The behaviour of the MLAs is condemnable. Instigating innocent minds to protest and chant religious slogans is an attempt to create a communal divide by these unfortunate lawmakers who should be called law-breakers. The error in the FIR should be rectified by mentioning the place as DDPI's office instead of the School in the case of Mr Bharat Shetty. However, the Penal provisions mentioned in the FIR should be retained. Understandably, the Police have committed an inadvertent error without any malafide intentions. The School management has gravely erred in suspending the teacher without a fair trial. The principles of natural justice are given a go-by. Post findings of the inquiry the teacher if found innocent and charges baseless should be reinstated without a break in service, with all benefits and in the same institution. It is essential that the perpetrator of the crime who circulated the video should be identified and criminal action initiated at the earliest. Dakshina Kannada known for such communal infernos and moral policing need Police officers who will be ruthless in enforcing the law and ending such nonsense.

These people who protest and raise slogans have never built or initiated a school in south kanara district which can give education at such a low cost.Just count the churches and schools , Masjid and Masjid school built in last 25 years and then just ask how many schools or temples are built by these so called dharma Rakshak majority team. They only destroyed the soft fabric of our peaceful educated district, because of good schools hospitals and colleges our district has become famous and taxi bus and auto can earn daily bread .

The filming of the video, the harsh verbiage used towards the school authorities, the chanting of the names of religious icons, all in front of the students clearly show that all this was done for several reasons. 1) To make those paper tigers look as if they are roaring like lions to their masters in Nagpur, Delhi and around the world. 2. To gain votes from dimwits that they are custodians of religion 3) To undermine the school authorities 4) To encourage students to disrespect teachers, and by chanting to insinuate that they are superior. Alternatively, they could have come and discussed behind closed doors without cameras and "NO CHANTINGS", but clearly they had all of the above ulterior motives.

My children study in the class.Sr.Prabha DID NOT SAY anything bad about any religion. The poem written by Tagore was explained by Sr.Prabha. See below. Work is Worship Leave this chanting and singing and telling of beads! Whom dost thou worship in this lonely dark corner of a temple with doors all shut? Open thine eyes and see thy God is not before thee He is there the tiller is tilling the hard ground and where the path-maker is breaking stones. He is with them in sun and shower, and his garment is covered with dust. Put off thy holy mantle and even like him come down on the dusty soil! Deliverance? Where is this deliverance to be found? Our master himself has joyfully taken upon him the bonds of creation; he is bound with us all forever. Come out of thy meditations and leave aside thy flowers and incense! What harm is there if thy clothes become tattered and stained? Meet him and stand by him in toil and in sweat of thy brow. Meaning of the the poem: Temples, churches and mosques are only buildings. God dwells in the human hearts. Hence not to kill the human beings in the name of God. We need to respect the work and the human beings and see God in them. God doesn’t exist in the structures but in the human hearts and all of us are temples of God

The parents of these students should think what will be the impact on these children,s mind and how it will affect their future because as they grow they have to work/live with people of different cast, religion, languages. In the best interests of the school, management, teachers, parents and students, Its better to apply the compromise formula and move ahead in life. Filing cases, counter cases, will keep the wound raw. It will always boil down to the question 'where it started, and who started it?' . I dont think the Gerosa school would want to be in the midst of political factions warring to gain points. Its better to keep the controversy dead.

Totally respectfully disagree with you Mr. M V Norohna. Sr. Prabha's name has been publicly accused /maligned without a thorough investigation. Its a wound which will take years and years to heal and time doesn't heal it , justice does. If we compromise and keep quiet these goons will have the courage to repeat the same Goondagiri again and again. We have heard of facts where this RSS/BJP community have raped our nuns and these cases have never come up because the church choose to clean these nuns quickly and send them to an hush hush location. Did the church ever think of fighting for these raped nuns and giving them justice. what about their inner wounds and tears? This is wrong on so many levels. No compromise this time. If we compromise they will dare to hurt our other nuns and other priests and DARE THEY!!

These MLA's - MLA Vedavyas Kamath, along with MLA Bharat Shetty and corporators Sandeep Garodi, Bharat Kumar, and Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell should be made to RESIGN as they have publicly demoralized the women/nuns and also have incited communal disharmony along with breaking laws by instigating children to echo the slogans on school premises. We as a community need to protest and ask for their RESIGNATION!! As an ex-Gerosian and being a devout Hindu, I have never heard or come across a single nun/teacher speak against our Hindu faith. It breaks my heart to see my school being disreputed by these hooligans who are purely doing it for their political gain. It saddens my heart to see these Hindu kids being used and brainwashed into hating another community which stands nothing for love and peace!

Both the MLA's should lose their MLA ship and they should not be allowed to contest any election again in future, as they behaved as gundaas. They need to apologize to the Institution management in public and should receive jail sentence so that these things don't occur again. We are aware of church attacks for no reason and this attempt was to attack chatholic institution. This should not be tolerated and unacceptable at all. Just a case is not enough, stringent action is the need of the hour. All these people who are involved in this act need to be sent for counselling so that they learn how to behave in future.

Burka issue has lost the steam now; this is little different, but still involves minorities, so don't expect to die down untill the election. by next week main tv channels will call a debate and intimidate minority representive on the panel. Anchor will behave like a judge and bring every other issue other than the original issue.. The way Vedavyas Kamath behaved, i am terribly upset and feel ashamed !

It's a shit allegation towards this made before the council. Firstly it shouldn't have to be made this big which is a spread over all the nations now and become a big time controversy in the nation now. It's HEAVY VIRAL RIGHT NOW and everyone are aware. These MLA's, what do they even think of themselves. We have always been there and done that doesn't mean they have to make a mess out of it. Christian colleges are the best amongst all the education given priority towards all the culture, religion, caste and no restrictions as such are made. We really are pleased and obliged to have such institution in our city which we really do not deserve when such impractical situation occurs. Which we really do not encourage these stupid instances in spoiling our title for a smart City like town of Mangalore and being number 1 top considering with education in town. THE ACTION MUST FLOW ON BOTH THE ENDS. THIS HAS TO TAKE A LEGAL ACTION AGAINST!!!

As written in the Holy Scripture, Only solution for these frequent inter religious flare ups to agree and consider as all are gods or the children of the Most High. Without which also everyone think and act like gods anyway. Also most treat their small children and elders as gods. Who do not want or called to be gods ? Election times these things are common ? Need to vote for good candidates only ?

This is right way to do it. An audio clip that simply got circulated (was intently) doesn't prove anything. Anyone can go on WhatsApp or on any social media platform and make allegations very particularly false accusations when there is an evil motive involved. Any child can make up stories or be forced to tell things. The allegation is that she has been making these remarks for the last 7 yrs., if so why have you (to the file complainer) and the rest waited so long and gone to the media first rather than making one on one enquiry with the school management? Wouldn’t that be a sensible thing to do. Do you go to the media first or to the school management seeking explanation. What these MLA's and corporators did was beyond disgusting. MLA Vedavyas Kamath was extremely derogatory towards our nuns. This man lacks basic manners in talking to women and considering the fact that this is a community of women who have no self-defence as such these low class MLA's and corporators choose to attack them(community). They barged in a paid group at the entrance and jumped off to conclusion via media accusing Sr Prabhu without any enquiry and proof that she has ever made these statements. They have shamelessly maligned a person’s name and take no responsibility for it. FIR needs to be registered on these four not just for inciting violence and communal disharmony but also for intimidating our nuns, women and make false allegations on them as well as our Christian community. Its high time the bishop of our diocese shows up when its required and stop hiding behind diplomacy. Its high time we make them accountable for all the derogatory and false remarks that RSS/BJP has passed on us so far and also for raping our nuns and mutilating our priests. As for MLA Bharat Shetty’s remarks please ask him to take all Hindus out of our Catholic institutions so we Catholics a self sufficient and dignified community can continue our progress peacefully.

However most gratifying vindication would be the self realization by the said MLAs and corporators thus refraining from demeaning the noble institutions...
