Mangaluru: Vamanjoor Kambala creates new record, event gets over in 23 hours

Mangaluru, Feb 18: Sankupoonja-Devupoonja Jodukare Kambala that was held in the paddy fields opposite Vamanjoor Amritheshwara Temple created a record by getting over in minimum time.

The Kambala which began at around 9.45 am on Saturday, February 17, got over at 8.50 am of Sunday, February 18. As many as 166 pairs of buffaloes took part in the competition.

Last year also the Vamanjoor Kambala got over within 23 hours. This year also it took the same time and became a model for other Kambala events, which are trying to implement the latest technology to complete the event as soon as possible.

As many as six pairs of buffaloes took part in the Kanehalage section, while five pairs participated in the Addahalage, 14 pairs in the Haggahiriya, 35 pairs in the Negilu Hiriya, 23 pairs in Hagga Kiriya and 83 pairs in the Negilu Kiriya sections.

In the Kanehalage section, Bolara Trishal K Poojary won the first prize and Byndoor Mahesh Poojary touched the plank. The second prize was won by Vamanjoor Tiruvailguthu Naveenchandra Alva B. The plank was touched by Tekkatte Sudhir Devadiga.

In the Addahalage section Bolar Trishal K Poojary won the first place and Savya Gangaiah Poojary touched the plank. The second place was bagged by Naravi Yuvaraj Jain. The plank was touched by Bhatkala Harish.

In the Hagga Hiriya section, the first place was won by Nandalike Srikant Bhat A. The jockey was Kavoor Dota Sudarshan. The second prize was won by Harekala Kaideluguthu Mithun M Rai A. Mijaru Ashwathapura Srinivasa Gowda was the jockey.

In the Hagga Kiriya section, the first prize was won by Karkala Neklaje Guthu Praveen Pradeep Kotian A Byndoor Manjunatha Gowda was the jockey. The second place was bagged by Karkala Neklaje Guthu Praveen Pradeep Kotian B. Mangalpadi Rakshit Shetty was the jockey.

In the Negilu Hiriya section, the first place was won by Mijaru Barke Praveen Bhandary. Kakkepadavu Perngalu Kritik Gowda was the jockey. The second prize was bagged by Navunda Ashrita Ishani Vishwanatha Poojary A. The jockey was Byndoor Manjunatha Gowda.

In the Negilu Kiriya section, Vamanjoor Tiruvailu Majalumane Sanjeeva Moolya A won the first place. Heerebettu Harishith was the jockey. The second place was bagged by Nellikaru Swastik Yuva Bandavaru A. jockey was Kakkepadavu Gautam Gowda.
