Bengaluru, Mar 1: St John’s Medical College Hospital, Bengaluru, commemorated the World Head Injury month celebrations with a series of informative programmes undertaken on Tuesday, March 19.
The programme involved skits performed by students of the College of Nursing at St John’s and staff of the hospital, including specialists from the surgical and neuro ICU, department of anaesthesia, St John’s Medical College Hospital.
The theme of this programme was ‘Restoring lives, one patient at a time’. This was based on the observation that “All wounds are not visible”.
Head injuries need to be identified early and treated adequately for a good outcome and survival. Most cases get a delayed referral, and have a suboptimal and adverse intervention at detection before being shifted to the hospital. This is a very important aspect that impacts well being and recovery of such patients.
There were more than 350 – 400 people, including patients, attenders and other bystanders who witnessed this educational input regarding head injuries needing timely attention. Doubts were clarified regarding head injury and intervention at the programme.
Poster competitions, both in hard copy and e-format were undertaken on the topic of head injury for the public audience. There was a very encouraging response, with 25 hard copy posters and 18 e-posters for the poster competition. Best poster awards would be awarded.
Today's programme would be followed up by a CME, with inputs from world renowned experts in the field of head injury management, from India and abroad.
